Overview
The successful candidate is likely to be in (or have previously occupied) a senior PA/Secretarial role and will have strong interpersonal skills and experience of diary management, working with committees and dealing with complex documents and processes.

Whilst this role is based directly in the Archdeacon’s office in Hertingfordbury, you would also be part of the wider diocesan office team, who would support you in getting to know the details of this varied and interesting role.

Please note that the salary stated (£36,294) is the FTE equivalent for a 35 hour week. This role is 20 hpw only, and the salary is therefore pro-rata to that.

Duties

Manage phone calls and emails with professionalism, ensuring timely responses and follow-ups.
Maintain an organised schedule, including appointments, meetings, and travel arrangements.
Support the Archdeacon and parishes through the vacancy process.
Support churchwardens and parish volunteers in their roles.
Update aspects of our database.
Assist with administration such as filing, document and report preparation, and maintaining office supplies.
Coordinate office activities to ensure smooth operations within the workplace.
Handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

Requirements

Proven experience in a senior secretarial role.
Excellent telephone and verbal communication skills and good levels of numeracy and literacy.
Proficiency in MS Office and IT literate.
Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
Attention to detail in all aspects of work, particularly in data entry and documentation.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Understanding of and sympathy with the life and work of the Church of England in St Albans Diocese.
