Full job description

Full-Time Sous Chef for our (Café & Bakery) Algar Lodge Farm Shop & Café

Due to the continued success and growth of our café and bakery, we're looking to expand our team with an additional Sous Chef.

This is a unique and varied role that combines working in our busy café kitchen and supporting our bakery team.

On café days, you'll work alongside our Chef, helping to run a busy breakfast and lunch service, preparing and cooking fresh dishes while ensuring the kitchen runs smoothly during service.

On bakery days, you'll work with our Bakery Team, producing our popular range of homemade cakes, traybakes, cheesecakes, tarts, scones and seasonal sweet treats for our deli using fresh, locally sourced ingredients from our farm shop.

If you're an experienced chef who enjoys both cooking and baking and is looking for a daytime role where no two days are the same, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you'll help deliver our extensive breakfast and lunch menu using fresh, locally sourced produce from our farm shop. You'll work confidently in a fast-paced kitchen environment, maintaining exceptional standards of food quality, presentation and hygiene.

Alongside your café responsibilities, you'll also become part of our bakery team, helping to produce a wide variety of homemade baked goods that are stocked daily in our deli.

This is a hands-on role offering plenty of variety and the opportunity to develop your skills across two thriving departments.

Key Responsibilities

Working alongside our Chef to deliver a busy breakfast and lunch service
Preparing and cooking fresh breakfast and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard
Supporting with menu development and introducing seasonal specials
Producing homemade cakes, traybakes, cheesecakes, tarts, scones and other bakery items
Preparing ingredients and following recipes to ensure consistency and quality
Maintaining excellent food hygiene and food safety standards
Ensuring exceptional presentation across all food produced
Helping with stock control and minimising waste
Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient kitchen and bakery
Supporting both the café and bakery teams wherever required

Previous experience as a Sous Chef or an experienced Chef de Partie ready to step up
A genuine passion for fresh, homemade food and baking
Someone who enjoys both cooking and baking
Creative, enthusiastic and eager to contribute new ideas
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Calm under pressure and able to thrive in a busy kitchen
High standards of food hygiene and attention to detail
Reliable, hardworking and a great team player
Flexible and willing to work across both departments
