Join Our Team as a Modern Apprentice in Finance!

NHS Lanarkshire is thrilled to announce exciting opportunities for Modern Apprenticeships in Finance across Lanarkshire.

Launch Your Career in Finance with NHS Lanarkshire

Are you looking for an opportunity to gain a recognised qualification, earn a salary, and develop valuable workplace skills? Our Finance Modern Apprenticeship offers the chance to work within one of Scotland's largest NHS Boards while studying towards an SCQF Level 6 qualification in Accounting. No previous work experience is required just enthusiasm, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

Key Details:

Locations: Kirklands, Head Office
Wage: Band 3 Annex 21 (£29,103 - £31,409)
Duration: Fixed term post for 18 months, 36 hours each week.
Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1st of August 2026, (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with care experience) are eligible. Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 6/ Higher level.

Annex 21 - As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions so you will be paid 70% of the salary in year 1. Your salary will be reviewed annually in accordance with the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, ensuring fair and structured progression throughout your apprenticeship.

If successful, you will be appointed on a salary aligned with the Scottish National Living Wage.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will transition to the appropriate salary scale for the role, reflecting your new qualifications and responsibilities.

What We Offer:

Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of business and administrative skills.
Qualification: Work towards achieving a SCQF Level 6 qualification in Accounting with South Lanarkshire College, leading to a nationally recognised qualification.
Support: You will be well supported on this Modern Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.

What We're Looking For:

Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Modern Apprenticeship Programme.
Skills: Strong communication, numerical and IT skills, along with the ability to understand various procedures and processes.
Interest: A particular interest in finance roles, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development.
Qualifications: Ability to work at SCQF level 6/Higher level, with a Higher in Maths, Accounting or related subject.

Duties as a Finance Assistant may include:

Prepare and provide accurate, timely budgetary and financial information to support effective use of resources.
Monitor Directorate expenditure against budgets, carry out variance analysis, and help ensure corrective action is taken.
Prepare cost, manpower and forecasting information to support service planning and reprofiling.
Liaise with Financial Services on monthly, periodic and ad-hoc financial procedures.
Provide financial support for ad-hoc projects as directed by the Senior Management Accountant.
Manage computer input/output procedures and assist with annual accounts preparation.
Prepare accurate information relating to General Medical Services payments and independent contractor payments.

No Prior Experience Necessary: This Modern Apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
