General Manager – Sky Blue Tavern, Coventry

Reports To

Owner / Operations Director

Job Summary

Sky Blue Tavern is a busy sports bar in the heart of Coventry, offering a welcoming atmosphere, live sport, quality drinks, and excellent customer service. We are looking for an experienced and motivated General Manager to lead our team and oversee the day-to-day running of the venue.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an outstanding customer experience, managing daily operations, driving sales, maintaining high standards, and creating a positive working environment for the team.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations

Manage the daily operation of the sports bar, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and venue maintenance.
Ensure compliance with all licensing, health and safety, food hygiene, and company policies.
Monitor stock levels, place orders, and minimise waste.
Manage cash handling procedures and daily financial reconciliation.

Team Leadership

Recruit, train, coach, and develop bar staff.
Create staff rotas that meet business demands while controlling labour costs.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback.
Lead by example and promote a positive, customer-focused culture.
Resolve employee issues professionally and fairly.

Customer Experience

Deliver exceptional customer service at all times.
Build strong relationships with regular customers and the local community.
Resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively.
Ensure a welcoming atmosphere during busy sporting events and everyday trading.

Financial Performance

Achieve sales, profit, and labour targets.
Monitor weekly and monthly financial performance.
Identify opportunities to increase revenue through promotions, events, and upselling.
Control operating costs while maintaining excellent service standards.

Compliance

Ensure full compliance with licensing laws and Challenge 25 procedures.
Maintain accurate records and complete required audits.
Ensure all staff receive mandatory training.
Uphold food safety and health and safety standards.

Skills and ExperienceEssential

Previous experience managing a busy pub, sports bar, or hospitality venue.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
Experience managing budgets, stock control, and labour costs.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Flexible approach to working evenings, weekends, and major sporting events.
Personal Licence holder or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable

Experience increasing sales through events and promotions.
Knowledge of EPOS and stock management systems.
First Aid qualification.
