Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at the Engine Shed Restaurant in the Steam & Moorland Garden Centre located just outside Pickering.

In this role you will be working alongside the kitchen team preparing "lite-bites" such as salads, sandwiches, paninis, soup and baked potatoes. From time to time you will also be required to assist with serving hot meals.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in the hospitality industry and are willing to learn more about culinary operations.

This can be a fast paced environment , so experience of working in such an environment would be very useful. You need to be organised, efficient and have good attention to detail skills.

We are ideally looking for someone three or four days a week between 5 and 8 hours per day, including one day at the weekend.

Responsibilities

Preparing light bites
assisting the chef to prepare vegetables, making scones and soup etc.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing dishes, pots, and pans.
Storage and labelling of food items and supplies.
Dispose of waste responsibly and maintain a tidy work environment.
Ensure all kitchen equipment is cleaned and maintained according to hygiene standards.
Follow all health and safety regulations to ensure a safe working environment.

Requirements

Previous experience in a kitchen or restaurant setting is advantageous but not essential.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff.

If you are passionate about food preparation but would prefer to only work day shifts, this is the role for you. We are looking for someone who can work at lease 5/6 hours per day. We are flexible in our starting time and you would expect to work up to 4pm or 5pm depending on the time of year. Ideally 3/4 days per week, with some weekend working included.

We have some flexibility in start and finish times therefore this would ideally suit someone with caring responsibilities who does not want to work evenings and needs a later starting time on certain days.
