About Your Union

The University of St Andrews Students’ Association (aka Your Union) sits at the heart of the Campus - recently voted as one of the leading Universities in the UK, ranked first in the UK by the Guardian and Times/Sunday Times and with a reputation to protect. With over 11,000 members we are the primary student venue in St Andrews and support a thriving student scene with over 140 affiliated societies.

We are a dynamic, student-led organisation dedicated to enhancing the student experience for every student in St Andrews. We provide a wide range of services, including events, campaigns, societies, support, and representation. Our mission is to empower students, support their development, and create a vibrant campus culture.

Role Overview

The Events Manager provides strategic leadership, creative direction, and oversight of the Students’ Association’s full events portfolio. From club night brands to student-run performances, this is a busy and diverse role.

This role is responsible for shaping a vibrant, inclusive, and commercially sustainable events programme that positions the Union as the go-to destination in St Andrews

The Events Manager will lead on vision, relationships, and performance to ensure seamless operational and technical delivery of all events. You’ll work closely with elected student officers, student groups, commercial partners, and departments to ensure all our events are high quality, inclusive, and financially sustainable.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Programme Development

Set the creative vision and strategic direction for the Union’s events programme.
Lead the planning and delivery of an annual events calendar aligned to student needs, trends, and Union priorities.
Develop a balanced, commercially viable mix of in-house events, student-led initiatives, and external bookings.
Enhance the current offering across venues including our club nights, evening events and performances to drive footfall, engagement, and ticket sales.
Continuously evaluate performance, using data and feedback to refine and improve the programme.

Creative Direction & Experience Design

Oversee all aspects of event experience, including entertainment, atmosphere, theming, and giveaways.
Deliver innovative, inclusive, and high-impact events that enhance student life and engagement.
Champion a five-star customer experience across all touchpoints, from promotion and ticketing to delivery, event production and post-event evaluation.

Partnerships & Stakeholder Management

Build and maintain strong relationships with staff, students, societies, sports teams, external clients, suppliers, and promoters.
Liaise with student groups and third-party clients to develop achievable, budget-conscious successful events.
Work collaboratively with the Event Operations and Technical Lead to bring event concepts to life.
Ensure all key stakeholders are kept informed and aligned throughout the event lifecycle.

Event Promotion, Planning and Delivery

Create strong event brands that are effectively promoted.
Oversee the full lifecycle of events from concept development through to execution and evaluation.
Enhance event production.
Ensure all operational and logistical requirements are met.
Coordinate across departments to ensure seamless execution and high-quality delivery.

Commercial & Operational Oversight

Drive revenue through effective programming, ticket sales, and external bookings.
Ensure events are financially viable and delivered within agreed budgets.
Identify opportunities to grow audiences and increase commercial performance.

Contracts & Compliance

Lead on the standardisation and management of contracts with performers, suppliers, and partners, including DJs, live acts, and hosts
Ensure all agreements are clear, consistent, and aligned with organisational policies. Support delivery in line with health, safety, and operational compliance standards.

Financial Responsibilities

Manage cost control and efficiency.
Key Stakeholder in creating the Event Department budget and resource planning.
Accountable for meeting budgetary targets. Support wider commercial and operational decision-making.
Ensure value for money and effective supplier management

Key Outcomes

A vibrant, inclusive, and well-curated events programme that drives engagement and footfall.
Strong reputation of the Students’ Union as the primary social hub for students.
High-quality, memorable event experiences with strong attendance and satisfaction levels.
Sustainable partnerships and increased commercial performance.
Efficient, consistent processes for event planning, delivery, and contracting.

Essential

Minimum 3 years’ experience in similar role.
Proven experience in events, including technical production oversight.
Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in event planning and delivery.
Understanding of the values and challenges of working in a student-led, democratic organisation.
Experience in working in a nightclub, live music, theatre, or student/community venue environment and delivering an excellent customer experience.

Pay: From £32,080.00 per year
