Neighbourhood Housing Assistant

The Neighbourhood Housing Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality, customer‑focused housing management services across North Tyneside. Working within the Neighbourhood Housing Team and reporting to the Neighbourhood Housing Manager, the post holder provides essential administrative, operational, and customer service support that contributes to safe, sustainable, and well‑managed neighbourhoods.

The role directly assists Neighbourhood Housing Officers in managing day‑to‑day tenancy‑related activity, coordinating customer contact, supporting estate‑based work, and helping to maintain accurate records that underpin effective service delivery. This includes responding to routine customer enquiries, arranging home visits and access appointments, supporting digital service use, undertaking follow‑up visits where appropriate, and helping ensure that estate and communal areas are well maintained.

With a strong customer service focus, the post holder acts as a key point of contact for residents, enabling positive engagement and supporting tenancy sustainment. The Neighbourhood Housing Assistant also works collaboratively with colleagues across Housing and other Council services, contributing to joined‑up responses, improved service efficiency, and better outcomes for residents and communities.

The successful candidate

You will bring excellent customer service skills, a proactive approach, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with residents, colleagues, and partner organisations. You will be confident managing routine enquiries, organising your workload, and working calmly under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of customer care.

You will have experience of delivering customer service across multiple channels — face‑to‑face, by telephone, email, and digital platforms — along with strong organisational skills and the ability to work accurately and efficiently. You will also be comfortable supporting estate‑based work, conducting follow‑up visits, and applying agreed procedures to resolve routine issues, escalating more complex matters where appropriate.

A commitment to continuous improvement, excellent record‑keeping, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team are essential. Knowledge of housing services or a related environment would be beneficial, and training and development opportunities will support further skills in housing management, customer engagement, and neighbourhood‑based work.

The Post is Fixed Term until 31st March 2027.
