Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Commis Chef to join our dynamic culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for food preparation and cooking, with a keen eye for food safety and hygiene standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a professional hospitality environment, working alongside experienced chefs to deliver exceptional dining experiences. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the kitchen operations, assisting in food production, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation.

Duties

Assist in the preparation and cooking of a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes and standards
Support senior chefs in food presentation and plating to ensure visual appeal
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations, adhering strictly to food safety regulations
Help in the inventory management by checking stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages or expiry dates
Participate in the proper storage of ingredients and prepared foods to minimise waste
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during service periods
Supervise junior staff when required, providing guidance on food preparation and safety procedures
Contribute ideas for menu development and presentation enhancements
Uphold high standards of hospitality, serving guests efficiently and courteously when needed

Qualifications

Proven experience in a kitchen environment, preferably within a restaurant or hospitality setting
Strong knowledge of food production, preparation, and cooking techniques
Experience in supervising or managing team members is desirable
Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene standards
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service times
Demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to motivate team members
Good communication skills and a friendly, professional attitude towards colleagues and guests
Previous experience in food service or restaurant roles is advantageous but not essential for entry-level candidates willing to learn
