Full job description

We are a well-established independent builders merchant looking for an Accounts Assistant/Credit Controller to join our friendly and hardworking accounts team.

This is a varied role with a strong focus on credit control and sales ledger, raising sales invoices, helping to manage customer accounts and ensuring that payments are collected promptly. The successful candidate will also assist with purchase ledger and general accounts administration.

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break, 40 hours per week. The role will be based in our office in Heanor, we do not offer working from home.

Key Responsibilities

Credit control and collection of overdue customer accounts
Building positive relationships with customers whilst maintaining payment discipline
Sales ledger processing
Account reconciliations
General accounts administration
Learning other departmental duties to provide holiday and absence cover

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

Is organised, reliable and accurate
Enjoys speaking with customers and is confident on the telephone
Takes ownership of their workload
Is proactive and looks for ways to help the team rather than waiting to be directed
Can work independently whilst also being a supportive team member
Has a strong work ethic and a positive attitude
Is willing to learn new tasks and develop a broad understanding of the department

Previous experience in credit control, accounts administration, sales ledger or purchase ledger would be advantageous, although training can be provided for the right candidate.

Pay: £29,000.00 per year
