Full job description

Upward Housing is a registered Community Interest Company.

We provide supported housing for people with design features and services that enables people to maintain their independence and facilitate them living in their own homes, where they might otherwise have to stay dependent, or become dependent on more intensive models of care. We provide extra Support, Care and Supervision to people who have an assessed care and support need who may have, but not limited to a learning disability, physical disability or other complex care and support needs.

Job description

We have an exciting vacancy to join our team as a Housing Support Officer.

1) Act as the primary point of contact for all new tenant move-ins, preparing welcome packs, meeting tenants on their tenancy start date, completing tenancy sign-ups, and ensuring a smooth and positive transition into their new home.

2) Complete and manage Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction/Exemption applications on behalf of tenants. Liaise with healthcare professionals, support workers, tenants, and relevant agencies to gather supporting information, submit applications, and monitor progress to ensure claims are processed promptly.

3) Visit properties to accurately record utility meter readings, coordinating with tenants, family members, and colleagues to gain access where required, and maintain accurate property records.

4) Carry out health and safety inspections and tenant well-being audits, taking into account each tenant's individual needs, disabilities, and vulnerabilities. Identify risks, raise corrective actions, and follow through to ensure appropriate solutions are implemented.

5) Coordinate all housing management compliance activities, including gas safety inspections, electrical inspections, fire safety checks, and other statutory servicing requirements. Monitor due dates, arrange appointments, liaise with contractors, staff, and tenants, and ensure all certification is received, recorded, and maintained in compliance with regulatory requirements.

6) Other general housing and property related support duties associated with providing high quality supported housing to less able and vulnerable people.

You will be office based in Walsall Head Office, WS3. You will need to frequently travel to local properties as well as occasionally travelling to other areas in the West Midlands (primarily Birmingham and Solihull).

FULL DRIVING LICENCE AND VEHICLE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE.

Key Skills & Experience:

· Experience in tenancy support, housing management, housing officer or a similar role.

· Knowledge of Housing Benefit, Universal Credit, Council Tax, and related welfare benefits.

· Experience supporting vulnerable adults and working collaboratively with healthcare professionals, local authorities, and external agencies.

· Experience managing tenancy processes, including move-ins, tenancy sign-ups, property inspections, and maintaining accurate tenancy records.

· Strong organisational, administrative, and IT skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.

· Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

· Enhanced DBS check.
