Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant/Cook to join our team. This role involves supporting the preparation and cooking of meals for 50 residents in a busy kitchen environment. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering high-quality food service, ensuring all food safety standards are maintained, and assisting with daily kitchen operations. Previous experience in a culinary, restaurant or care home setting is preferred. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food preparation and culinary arts to develop their skills within a supportive team.

Responsibilities

Assist with food preparation, including chopping, peeling, and assembling ingredients
Cook and prepare meals according to specified recipes and standards
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing dishes and sanitising surfaces
Ensure all food safety regulations are adhered to at all times
Support the serving of meals to customers or clients in a timely manner
Restock supplies and ingredients as needed to ensure smooth kitchen operations
Follow health and safety guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment
Assist with inventory management and stock rotation

Requirements

Prior experience in food preparation or cooking is desirable.
Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
Knowledge of special dietary requirements including modified textures and therapeutic diets an advantage
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Good time management
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Flexibility to work shifts as required, including weekends and holiday cover when necessary
A genuine interest in culinary arts and meal preparation
Satisfactory PVG

This role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to build on their experience in a care home environment while contributing positively to our team.

Pay: £12.71 per hour
