Specialist Winter Maintenance Equipment Driver

Ref: 001652

Contract: Fixed term for 6 months (Seasonal)

Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 per annum (Grade 4) including standby payment of £225 when on call.

Hours: Zero hour contract (shift patterns, working on a rota basis for 1 week, Thursday to Thursday)

Location: Moorhey Street Depot, Moorhey Street, Oldham, OL4 1JF

Closing Date: Sunday 30 August 2026

Interview Date: w/c Monday 7 September 2026

Role Overview:

To work on a standby/callout basis to drive a HGV Vehicle to grit highways and public places or load the gritter vehicles. Drivers/Loaders are expected to be available at all times throughout the week whilst on call to which a gross standby payment is paid irrespective of any hours worked to ensure your availability throughout.

Key Responsibilities:

To undertake an inspection of the vehicle assigned for the duration of the shift, following a checklist, and reporting any faults or issues as appropriate to the Duty Manager.
To assist in loading the vehicle with sufficient grit to undertake the assigned route. To drive and safely operate the computer to ensure the grit is appropriately distributed (full training will be provided)

To ensure all provided personal protected equipment (PPE) is worn and used correctly at all times.
To ensure your own health and safety, and that of other colleagues and members of the public are safeguarded at all times, and health and safety instructions issued are implemented and adhered to
