Full job description

Being a Visitor Experience Officer for the National Trust is all about people – connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit.

You'll work 37.5 hours per week. Your working pattern will generally be Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, with the expectation of occasional weekend work in line with Duty Manager rota or any events that are held on a weekend. This will likely be around 1 weekend every 5 weeks, but depends on business needs.

What it's like to work here:Reporting into the Visitor Operations and Experience Manager, you'll be a part of the Visitor Experience team, one of the largest and most varied teams on property. The team includes the front of house Welcome Team, marketing, community and volunteering, and programming, where you'll work closely with another Visitor Experience Officer to plan and deliver an exciting programme of events and engagement offers. Interactive family trails are a key part of this, and you will work with other property departments closely to bring these to life.

Sheffield Park and Garden is a Grade I-listed landscape garden that has evolved over centuries, with ‘Capability’ Brown and Humphry Repton contributing to the design. The garden is surrounded by more than 300 acres of historic parkland and woodland.

What you'll be doing:As Visitor Experience Officer, your main focus will be on providing a great service for visitors. With your team, you’ll be welcoming people and inspiring them to really get to know Sheffield Park. This might include devising and running events and activities, and creating interpretive displays and other ways of bringing the place, and its stories, to life for everyone who comes here. You'll encourage visitors to take a closer look at artworks or precious objects cared for by the Trust.

You might be supervising and supporting volunteers and organising rotas. You’re likely to be checking standards of presentation on site, or helping to write for our web pages.

You'll be on the duty management rota where you'll be responsible on the day for the smooth running of the property during opening hours, acting as the main contact point for staff, volunteers, and customers in case of emergency, enquiry or complaint.

skilled in organisation and planning, with a good eye for detail
good at talking to, and getting on with, all kinds of people
a hard-working and committed team player
comfortable with IT: Microsoft Office, as well as web and social media
experienced in producing interpretive materials, such as displays and exhibitions, and marketing or promotional materials
familiar with health and safety procedures
