Full job description

Hours: 36 hours per week

Location: Hybrid working – home based with regular travel across Greater Manchester, community venues and partner organisations.

Reports to: Head of Family Support

The Opportunity

Thanks to newly secured funding, The Joshua Tree is expanding into Greater Manchester, bringing our holistic family support to even more families.

We're looking for an experienced and compassionate team leader to help establish our Greater Manchester service from October 2026.

You'll join an experienced Leadership Team and build upon a proven model of family support that already delivers outstanding outcomes for hundreds of families every year.

Our systems, governance, training and operational frameworks are already established, allowing you to focus on developing local partnerships and leading a team to ensure families receive exceptional support.

Initially, you'll lead outreach, digital and community based delivery whilst building relationships with NHS partners, charities and local organisations. As the service grows, you'll play a key role in developing a dedicated Greater Manchester Support Centre, helping bring the full range of The Joshua Tree's emotional, wellbeing and family support services closer to families across the region.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a growing service whilst benefiting from the support, expertise and stability of an established charity.

What You'll Be Doing

Service Leadership

Leading the delivery of The Joshua Tree's Greater Manchester Family Support Service.
Develop high quality local delivery plans based upon our established service model.
Ensure services remain safe, responsive and impactful.
Monitor budgets and service performance.
Provide regular reports to the Head of Family Support.

People Management

Recruit, manage and develop the Greater Manchester Family Support Team.
Provide regular supervision, support and appraisal.
Foster a positive, collaborative and compassionate team culture.
Ensure safeguarding responsibilities are understood and embedded throughout the team.

Partnership Development

Build trusted relationships with NHS services, schools, charities and community partners.
Develop referral pathways across Greater Manchester.
Represent The Joshua Tree within professional networks and multi-agency meetings.
Increase awareness of our services across the region.

Service Growth

Support outreach and digital service delivery.
Gather feedback and measure impact.
Help shape plans for a future Greater Manchester Support Centre.
Contribute ideas that support continuous improvement and innovation.

What Success Looks Like

During your first 12 months you will have:

Successfully established The Joshua Tree's Greater Manchester service.
Built strong referral pathways with key healthcare and community partners.
Developed a motivated and supported local team.
Delivered meaningful support to families across the region.
Helped lay the foundations for our future Greater Manchester Support Centre.

About You

You'll be someone who enjoys building relationships, leading people and making a genuine difference.

You'll be proactive, organised, compassionate and confident making decisions whilst working as part of a supportive leadership team.

Essential Experience

Experience of managing and developing people.
Experience supporting children, young people and families.
Experience developing or growing services.
Experience of project management and delivery
Excellent communication and partnership-building skills.
Strong organisational and planning skills.
Knowledge of outcome and impact measurement
Ability to manage competing priorities.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Experience of using CRM Systems
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
Full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle insured for business use.

Desirable Experience

Experience within childhood cancer, palliative care, healthcare or the charity sector.
Experience of partnership working with NHS organisations.
Experience of Lamplight CRM
