Junior Clerk (Clerk to Counsel)

Location: Seaton - Devon

Hours: Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5.30pm (or as required)

Reporting to: Senior Clerk

We are recruiting for a Junior Clerk to join a busy and professional barrister clerking team working at our admin office in Seaton, Devon. Our barristers offer legal services throughout England & Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in clerking and practice management within the legal sector. On-site 5 days week.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide an effective and efficient practice management service, supporting barristers and clerks to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of chambers. You will play a key role in diary management, client liaison and court preparation working closely with the Senior Clerk and other Clerks.

Key Responsibilities

General Clerking Duties

Providing a high-quality clerking and practice management service at all times
Answering telephone and calls promptly and professionally
Handling enquiries from solicitors, clients and third parties, ensuring accurate records are maintained
Entering and managing bookings, digital papers and notes on the booking systems
Managing barristers' diaries and ensuring accurate court listings, venues and timings
Assisting with fee quotes, billing and fee chasing as directed by Senior Clerk

Additional Responsibilities

Deputising for clerks during periods of absence, as agreed
Supporting inter-team cooperation to ensure efficient service delivery
Presenting a professional image of chambers at all times
Undertaking any other reasonable duties required to support the practice management function

The Ideal Candidate

Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Professional, reliable and able to work under pressure
Confident communicator with good written and verbal skills
IT literate and comfortable working with case management systems
A proactive team player with a strong work ethic
