Day Time Support Worker

Due to the term-time salary this role we can't offer visa sponsorship for this role

40 hours per week, 37 weeks per year (Term Time Only)

FTE £26,538

Pro rata, term time only Actual Salary £21,657

Based at Argent College, Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham

Argent College is part of Ruskin Mill Trust and is located in the New Standard Works, a beautiful Grade 2 listed building in the heart of Birmingham’s vibrant Jewellery Quarter. This former Victorian jewellery factory has been transformed into a leading provider of further education for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The College also includes the award-winning Hive Organic Café and Bakery, a thriving heritage centre and art gallery, community spaces and a unique biodynamic rooftop micro-farm.

Established in 1984, Ruskin Mill Trust is an educational charity that operates in England, Scotland and Wales. We offer exciting outdoor learning environments, utilising practical land and craft activities to support the development of work and life skills in young people with autistic spectrum conditions and other learning differences. Our research-led method, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, is inspired by the work of Rudolf Steiner, John Ruskin and William Morris. Working with hand, head, heart and place, Ruskin Mill Trust helps individuals to re-imagine their potential.

The post holder will be required to promote and ensure the safety, care and well-being, learning and development of the students to enable their growth in confidence and social and practical skills.

The key duties in this role will include:

The supervision and support of students throughout the college day, both in sessions, unstructured time and any other setting as required; which may include the residential homes and other trust sites as required
To encourage students to attend planned session and to help them become engaged in the curriculum activities;
Completion of relevant paperwork as required;
To support College safeguarding procedures by reporting quickly and effectively any disclosures to the College Safeguarding Team.

To undertake this position successfully, you will have:

Knowledge of specialist education;
Experience of working with learners with learning difficulties and / or learning disabilities and challenging behaviour;
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
A flexible and professional approach to work is required.
