Job Title: Assistant Buyer

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

Location: East Kilbride

Salary: £30,000 (DOE)

Operating in a competitive private sector market, our procurement function is central to controlling costs, managing risk, and supporting our site teams to ensure project success.

The Role

We are seeking a commercially minded, detail-focused Assistant Buyer to join our growing procurement team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in construction procurement and develop a long-term career.

You will support the sourcing and procurement of materials and plant, ensuring quality, value, and programme requirements are met. You will work closely with both, internal and external stakeholders, gaining insight into the financial and operational drivers that impact project performance.

Over time, as you progress in your career, you will take on broader responsibilities and develop a strong understanding of how effective procurement contributes directly to the profitability and growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist with sourcing and procuring materials and plant to meet site requirements.

· Obtain and analyse supplier RFQs, ensuring commercial competitiveness and alignment with tender allowances.

· Prepare and process purchase orders in line with procurement procedures.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers.

· Chase deliveries as and when required.

· Monitor and report on late deliveries.

· Resolve invoice discrepancies and maintain contract pricing schedules.

· Attend stakeholder meetings with Senior Buyer.

· Support Senior Buyer with delegated tasks.

· Occasional site and supplier visits with Senior Buyer, as required.

Candidate Profile

Requirements:

· Strong numeracy skills and commercial awareness.

· High attention to detail and excellent organisational ability.

· Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

· Effective communicator with a willingness to learn and a disciplined work ethic.

· Genuine interest in construction and commercial operations.

· We value initiative, accountability, and a desire to understand the business.

· Full and valid UK driving license.

· Vehicle essential due to the requirement of supplier visits as part of the tendering process.

Desirable:

· Previous experience in construction or a commercial environment.

· Understanding of construction materials and procurement processes.

· Ambition to pursue a professional career in construction procurement.

· Contracted Hours: Monday to Thursday (08:00 – 17:00) and Friday (08:00 – 16:00)
