Registered Independent Special School

Todmorden

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people who need support beyond mainstream education? We are a brand-new independent special school in Todmorden for 60 children aged 10 to 18 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs—and we’re looking for dedicated, compassionate, and resilient staff to join our founding team.

Location: Pennine, 182 Burnley Road, Todmorden. OL14 5LB
School Opening: January 2026
Positions Available: Teaching Assistant level 2 (TA2), Teaching Assistant level 3 (TA3), Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Contract Type: Full-time (31 – 32.25 hours a week)

Hours: TA2 8.40am-2.40pm, TA3 8.30am-3pm, HLTA 8.15am-3pm

Additional to these hours will be a weekly staff meeting 3-4pm
Salary: Competitive, based on experience and qualifications

Roles Available

We are recruiting for:

Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistants (TA2/3) to work in classrooms supporting the teacher
Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA) for various roles; pastoral support, out of class interventions, classroom lead for enrichment lessons

What We’re Looking For

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in:

Supporting children and young people with SEMH needs
Working in alternative provision or specialist settings
Delivering interventions and supporting learning across a range of subjects
Building trusting relationships and promoting positive behaviour

Minimum Requirements

GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above)
Experience working with children or young people, especially those with additional needs
An appropriate enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service)

Recommended Qualification

Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (Level 2 TAs)
Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning (Level 3 TAs)
HLTA Status (Higher Level Teaching Assistant) – for those taking on more responsibility, including leading lessons under supervision

Essential qualities:

Empathy, patience, and resilience
A commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
Strong communication and teamwork skills
