About Vintage Threads

Founded in 2016, Vintage Threads are one of Europe's leading vintage retailers, operating across both online and physical stores. Every piece we sell has been handpicked from around the world, and we specialise in a highly curated selection of designer and sportswear from the 80s, 90s and early 00s.

The VT Rework department is a fast-evolving part of the business built on one clear aim: to take damaged and unloved items and give them another life. We create genuinely 1-of-1 pieces on a weekly basis, depending on what passes through the Vintage Threads studio.

Sustainability is at the core of everything we do . We're trying to lead the industry on what's possible with damaged and unloved vintage materials, proving that garments most would write off can be reimagined into something new, wearable and desirable. Having collaborated with adidas, Manchester City, Guinness and Schuh, this is an amazing opportunity to push your skills and have your work seen by industry-leading partners and millions of customers.

About the role

Reporting to our Head of Rework, you will be the driving force behind the studio's output. This is a hands-on, machine-led role focused on keeping garment production as high and as consistent as possible, while wasting as little material as possible along the way.

You'll spend most of your time at the machine, but you'll also be thinking about how we work: how to get the best possible yield from every damaged piece, how to keep quality high as volume grows, and how to reimagine materials others would throw away.

Key responsibilities:

Leading day-to-day garment production, keeping output high and consistent
Maximising material efficiency — getting the most out of every damaged and unloved piece, and minimising waste
Sewing and finishing completed items to a high, reliable standard
Working from patterns to produce and refine designs
Maintaining quality and consistency as production scales
Helping shape smarter, more sustainable ways of working across the studio

About you

Essential:

Experienced machinist — confident sewing complete items to a professional finish
Able to work confidently and accurately from a pattern
Focused on quality and output, with an eye for reducing material waste
A genuine passion for sustainable fashion and reimagining damaged clothes into something new

Nice to have:

Experience up-cycling or reworking vintage garments
Experience managing or coaching others in a studio setting
Your own ideas and point of view on rework and sustainability

The details

Hours: Part-time, 2-3 days per week to begin with, increasing if wanted
Location: Based at our Islington studio. We'd love to have you in the space, but we're flexible if you'd prefer to work partly or mostly from home
Reports to: Head of Rework
