working across Staffordshire (Stafford, Stoke-On-Trent, NUL)

Your role as a Deputy Service Manager is partly in the management and support of workers, report writing and professional meetings and other tasks, ensuring quality control and management oversight and partly as one of leading by example for staff in performing as a corporate parent/mentor/positive role model by providing advice, guidance and practical support to young people (16-21 yrs) living in supported accommodation this includes sessional work. Your principal role to support staff in building good relationships with the people we support, gaining their respect and trust over time and equipping them for independence. Whilst also providing positive and effective support/guidance to the staff team.

You will be required to complete weekly contact/monitoring forms for the Local Authority and also write regular reports on the five outcomes for review purposes, clearly demonstrating achievements or any concerns raised and how you are pro-actively managing those concerns. You will also be required to attend review meetings, PEP’s, CIN meetings with Children’s Services when required and any other professional meetings as directed.
You must work in accordance with The Supported Accommodation Regulations, ensuring partnership working with OFSTED, Local Authorities and demonstrate an ability to have effective inter agency working, with a good knowledge of organisations and resources available within the local area.

You will be required to represent the company in a professional and competent manner.

You will be responsible for supporting young people to use their utilities efficiently. You will need patience and a good sense of humour as well as the ability to organise and manage your time with the ability to rearrange appointments around the needs of the people we support, in a cost-effective manner. You will need to be proactive and support/encourage ideally but completing the task for them if it is to promote the organisation or there are health and safety issues. Independence must be promoted at all times, including accessing public transport for appointments or walking where possible. You will be required to support UASC with asylum applications and supporting them to integrate into the wider community.

You will need to support staff to help young people promote their independence skills using your knowledge of the 5 outcomes from Every Child Matters and have excellent working knowledge of the supported accommodation regulations. You must have the ability to work proactively and be able to motivate others to achieve their goals to realise their potential. A good background and understanding of the challenges that face looked after children is essential.

Hours of Work:
You will be required to work a 37 hour week (this can be negotiated within reason). This will include direct work with our young people and management hours to support the Registered Service Manager. You will be required to be part of an on-call rota for which an additional allowance is paid, and you may be expected to complete sleep in shifts if required as part of your working hours, again an additional allowance is paid for these.

Qualifications/Experience:
Essential:
NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People Workforce or equivalent /
Other transferable Qualifications
a minimum of 2 years experience of working with children and young people
A good understanding of the Ofsted regulations for supported accommodation
Current driving licence and access to a car
Experience in leading/managing teams
Trauma informed practice
Experience of inter-agency working
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management or willingness to work towards
