As our school continues to grow and flourish we are introducing additional roles. This is an exciting opportunity for a School Cook/Kitchen Manager to join our team at Heather Bridge School.

Heather Bridge School is an independent specialist school set within a beautiful location within Dartmoor National Park. We adopt a creative, individualised approach for students who have barriers to learning associated with social, emotional, mental health and ASC needs. Our curriculum approach, Enterprise Learning, allows our students to rebuild confidence in their abilities, feel safe and supported, and gain skills and knowledge that will allow them to thrive in the modern world.

We are looking to appoint a friendly and confident School Cook to prepare, cook and serve nutritious, balanced meals to students and staff in a clean, safe, and efficient environment. They will ensure that food provision and quality at the school is aligned and determined by the aims of the group; that students and colleagues are supported to prioritise healthy and varied options to support wellbeing. The role includes menu planning, food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and compliance with health and safety standards.

They may also work to deliver curriculum interventions by supporting students working within the kitchen and supporting relevant projects.

The successful applicant will be required to have great attention to detail, the ability to remain calm under pressure and excellent organisational skills.

Duties will include:

Preparing and cooking meals according to the weekly menu, accommodating any special dietary requirements.
Ensuring all food is stored, handled, and prepared according to hygiene and safety regulations.
Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen, including equipment, utensils, and food storage areas.
Monitoring food supplies and assist with ordering and stock rotation.
Serving food in a timely and friendly manner, this may include breakfast, snack and lunch.
Adhering to Spaghetti Bridge policies, including safeguarding and allergen management
Maintaining accurate records related to food safety, temperatures, and cleaning schedules
Working with relevant colleagues to provide opportunities and support to students who may work within the kitchen area.
Organising, supervising and managing the work of kitchen staff
Ensuring kitchen staff have been adequately trained and maintain records
Advising the Business Manager/Headteacher on appropriate resources and materials
On request, catering for school functions, for example staff training days, celebration of learning events and group support meetings/training days.

The working hours of this post are 37.5 hours per week, term time only, plus two weeks within school holiday period, as required.
