Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our Mental Health Nursing Home In Tooting on a bank contract. The successful candidate will provide essential support to our service users, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. Day Health Care Assistant:

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of clients in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.

To help in the care of the client’s physical environment, both in the Community and in the Home.

To take delegated responsibilities in the clients under your care, to the appropriate level.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist clients who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and toilet.
Help clients with mobility problems and other physical disabilities such as incontinence; help in the care and use of aids and personal equipment.
Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity if clients through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
Make and change beds; tidy and clean communal areas and any other areas as requested.
Inspect, launder and mend clients' clothing.
Serve meals; assist clients at meal times if required; wash up utensils.
Answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone; greet visitors.
Read and write reports in case notes.
Take part in staff and client meetings and also in training activities as required.
Assist a senior member of staff who has been assessed as competent with medication administration.
To hold a suitable Health & Safety Certificate and suitable Food & Hygiene Certificate.
To perform such other reasonable duties as may be required and directly associated with the Manager's businesses.

Night Health Care Assistant:

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To provide or assist in wakeful night duty cover in the Home.

To undertake certain domestic duties which can be performed during the night hours.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry out regular checks around the home at intervals determined by the matron and with due regard for clients' privacy.
Carry out regular checks on the building with special reference to fire protection.
Answer emergency bells, assess the situation, deal with the client seeking help or call upon the other staff.
Assist clients who need help, reassurance or comfort.
Assist clients preparing for bed and waking in the morning as directed.
In the time available between attending to clients, undertake domestic duties primarily in the fields of laundry and ironing, food preparation or cleaning as directed.
Read and write reports in case notes.
Take part in staff meeting s and training activities as directed.
Assist with the giving of medication.
Such other reasonable duties as may be required.

Experience

Previous experience working within a mental health care / nursing home or similar environment is essential; training will be provided
Good understanding of care plans and patient needs management
Basic IT skills for record keeping and communication purposes
Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently when required
Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to improve patient quality of life
