About Onyx DB

Onyx DB is a specialist design and build fit-out contractor delivering high-quality commercial, hospitality and leisure projects throughout the UK. Our clients include leading national brands, and we pride ourselves on delivering projects safely, on programme and to the highest standards.

Due to continued growth and an expanding order book, we are looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our team based in Preston.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to play a key role in the continued success of a growing business.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of multiple fit-out projects across the UK from tender handover through to final account.

The successful candidate will work closely with our Operations, Estimating and Finance teams, ensuring projects are commercially successful while maintaining excellent relationships with clients and our supply chain.

Regular travel to project sites across the UK will be required.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial management of multiple live construction projects.
Procurement and appointment of subcontractors and suppliers.
Preparation, negotiation and agreement of subcontract orders.
Management of project costs, forecasts and budgets.
Valuation and certification of subcontractor applications.
Preparation and submission of client valuations.
Variation pricing and commercial negotiations.
Cost reporting and monthly CVR preparation.
Cash flow management and payment applications.
Final account negotiation and agreement.
Risk identification and mitigation throughout the project lifecycle.
Support operational teams with commercial advice and contractual matters.
Build and maintain strong client and subcontractor relationships.

What We're Looking For

Minimum 5 years' experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager role.
Experience within commercial fit-out, retail, hospitality or interior refurbishment.
Good knowledge of JCT forms of contract.
Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple fast-track projects simultaneously.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Full UK driving licence.
Willingness to travel nationwide.

Desirable

Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or Construction Management.
Knowledge of CVRs and financial reporting.
Experience working for a principal contractor.
