Job Summary

The Head of Sales will provide leadership, direction and coaching to a nationwide team of Business Development Managers, driving a high-performance sales culture focused on sustainable growth, customer acquisition and market share.

This is a hands-on leadership role that requires regular travel across the UK to support, mentor and develop the sales team in the field. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating the foundations of a best-in-class sales function, implementing effective sales processes, driving accountability and ensuring the team consistently delivers against company objectives.

Working closely with the Sales Director, the Head of Sales will play a key role in shaping the sales strategy, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and developing a scalable sales structure that supports future business growth.

This position is ideally suited to an experienced sales leader from the powered access, plant or equipment rental/hire industry who thrives in a fast-paced commercial environment and enjoys developing people as much as delivering results

Key Responsibilities

Lead, inspire and develop a nationwide team of Business Development Managers
Coach and mentor team members through regular field visits, joint customer meetings and performance reviews
Drive a high-performance culture through effective leadership, accountability and continuous development
Work closely with the Sales Director to implement the company's commercial strategy and sales objectives
Establish clear sales processes, standards and best practice across the Business Development team
Monitor team performance, pipeline activity, forecasting and conversion rates to ensure targets are achieved
Analyse sales performance data to identify trends, opportunities and areas for improvement
Support Business Development Managers with key customer negotiations, major opportunities and strategic account development
Identify training needs and deliver coaching to maximise individual and team performance
Collaborate with Hire Desk, Operations and other internal departments to deliver an outstanding customer experience
Ensure commercial decisions support both revenue growth and profitability
Maintain a strong understanding of industry developments, competitor activity and market trends
Represent the business professionally with customers, suppliers and industry partners

Travel extensively throughout the UK to support the nationwide sales team

Skills & Experience

Essential

Proven experience leading and developing successful field-based sales teams
Strong background within the rental/hire industry
Experience within powered access, plant hire or a closely related sector
Demonstrable track record of delivering sustainable sales growth through team performance
Excellent coaching, mentoring and leadership skills
Commercially astute with strong negotiation and influencing abilities
Experience implementing sales processes, KPIs and performance management
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
Strong analytical and reporting capability
High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems
Full UK driving licence
Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK

Desirable

Experience managing geographically dispersed sales teams
Understanding of operational and commercial aspects of the hire industry
