Potlocks Day Nursery is a brand-new nursery opening in September 2026, inspired by the area's rural heritage and surrounded by the values of nature, nurture and wellbeing. As part of The DEN Nursery Group, we are passionate about giving children the very best start in life – and that includes the food they eat every day.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Nursery Cook who shares our belief that mealtimes should be nutritious, enjoyable and educational. This is an exciting opportunity to establish our kitchen from the very beginning and play a key role in creating positive food experiences for children aged 0–5 years.

About the Role

As Nursery Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving fresh, nutritious meals and snacks each day using our established 16-day rotating menu. You will work closely with our Catering Manager to ensure meals are consistently delivered to the highest standards, whilst safely managing allergies, dietary requirements and food safety procedures.

At Potlocks, we believe children deserve real food made from real ingredients. Our menus are built around fresh produce, seasonal ingredients and home-cooked meals prepared from scratch. We avoid added sugar and unnecessary salt, encouraging healthy eating habits from the earliest years.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and cook all meals, snacks and refreshments in line with our 16-day rotating nursery menu.
Produce high-quality meals from scratch using fresh ingredients.
Ensure all dietary requirements, allergies, intolerances and cultural preferences are catered for safely and accurately.
Maintain detailed allergy information and robust allergen management procedures.
Follow recipes, portion guidance and nutritional standards set by the Catering Manager.
Order food and kitchen supplies and maintain appropriate stock levels.
Minimise food waste and support sustainable kitchen practices.
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and kitchen organisation.
Complete food safety documentation, temperature checks and cleaning schedules.
Ensure compliance with Food Standards Agency guidance and Safer Food Better Business procedures.
Support positive mealtime experiences and promote healthy eating habits for young children.
Work collaboratively with nursery colleagues to ensure children's needs are met throughout the day.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Has previous experience working as a cook in a nursery, school, care setting or commercial kitchen.
Holds a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or is willing to obtain one).
Has a strong understanding of food allergies, intolerances and special dietary requirements.
Understands the importance of nutrition in the early years.
Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.
Takes pride in producing high-quality meals every day.
Shares our passion for children's health, wellbeing and positive food experiences.
