Job Introduction

The Role

Are you an experienced licensing professional looking for an opportunity to lead and influence at a strategic level? Do you thrive in a role that combines people leadership, public protection, partnership working and regulatory compliance? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

As our Licensing and Community Safety Manager, you will lead our Licensing and Community Safety teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused services that support safe communities and vibrant local businesses. You will provide professional expertise on licensing matters, oversee the Council's responsibilities as a Responsible Authority under the Licensing Act 2003, and work closely with a wide range of internal and external partners to deliver effective outcomes for residents, businesses and visitors.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You will play a key role in shaping policy, managing complex licensing matters, supporting large-scale public events, and leading a dedicated team to deliver excellent services.

The Experience you will bring:

You will have experience working within a licensing, regulatory, legal or community safety environment, supported by a strong understanding of licensing legislation and related enforcement activities.
You will be an effective people manager with excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
You'll be confident working in a fast-paced environment, balancing competing priorities and building positive relationships with colleagues, elected members, businesses and partner agencies.
Experience of local government, managing complex licensing matters and leading high-performing teams would be advantageous.
A relevant licensing or legal qualification is essential.
Experience of managing large-scale events, budget management responsibilities and membership of a relevant professional body would be desirable.
