About the Role

As Deputy Manager, you will play a central role in shaping the day‑to‑day experience of the home. You will support the Registered Manager in leading staff, embedding good practice, and creating an environment where children feel safe enough to begin trusting again.

This role is about more than oversight. It is about presence—being visible to staff, available for guidance, and steady in moments of pressure. You will help ensure that consistency is felt not just in policy, but in practice.

The Deputy Manager role at Nurturing Haven forms part of our planned leadership structure, supporting stability, development, and clear succession within the home.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Registered Manager in the effective leadership and organisation of the home
Act as manager in charge when required, providing clear and calm direction
Lead, support, and supervise staff to deliver safe, consistent, trauma‑informed care
Promote professional curiosity and strong safeguarding practice at all times
Ensure concerns are identified, recorded, and escalated appropriately
Support care planning, risk management, and placement stability
Quality‑assure recording, shift handovers, and documentation
Contribute to recruitment, induction, supervision, and staff development
Support inspection readiness, audits, and continuous improvement
Help foster a culture of accountability, learning, and emotional safety for staff

About You

This role is well suited to someone who understands both the rewards and the responsibility of leadership in residential childcare.

You are likely to:

Have experience working in residential children’s care
Be in a senior role or ready to take the next step into deputy management
Be confident making decisions while remaining reflective and open to learning
Take safeguarding seriously and act early when things do not feel right
Be comfortable offering support, guidance, and challenge where needed
Understand the emotional demands placed on staff and model healthy professional boundaries

You recognise that good leadership is often quiet, consistent, and visible over time.

This Role May Not Be Suitable If You:

Prefer limited responsibility or being directed rather than leading
Avoid difficult conversations or addressing poor practice
Are uncomfortable being accountable for standards, decisions, and outcomes
Are seeking a role without regulatory, safeguarding, or leadership pressure

Qualifications & Requirements

NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Children’s Residential Care
Level 5 qualification (or willingness to work towards)
Strong understanding of safeguarding, legislation, and regulatory expectations
Flexibility to work a rota, including evenings, weekends, and on‑call responsibilities
