Full job description

Medical Secretary / Reception Support

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary / Reception Support to join our friendly GP practice team.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a professional telephone manner, and the ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information. You will be able to remain calm under pressure; prioritise your workload effectively and consistently work to deadlines.

This is a varied role which will, during periods of staff absence or increased demand, incorporate reception cover on an ad-hoc basis to meet the needs of the Practice. This may occasionally involve an earlier start or later finish.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Undertaking a variety of secretarial and administrative duties, including typing referral letters and processing referrals via the NHS e-Referral Service.
Processing applications for private medical reports, insurance claims and other private work, including requests for access to patient records.
Summarising and read coding relevant information from patient clinical records and hospital correspondence.
Dealing with telephone queries from patients, hospitals and external agencies.
Liaising with secondary care providers and other healthcare organisations.
Filing and general administrative duties.
Providing reception support when required.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience working as a Medical Secretary and Reception Support.
NHS experience.
Experience using the SystmOne clinical system.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Flexible approach to covering additional hours, annual leave and sickness absence when required.
NHS Smartcard desirable.

Hours of Work

38 hours per week:

Monday: 8:00am – 6:30pm
Tuesday: 8:00am – 6:30pm
Thursday: 8:00am – 6:30pm
Friday: 8:00am – 6:30pm
