Full job description

The Operations & Income Manager will provide strong financial leadership across Sahir’s internal operations while working closely with the Chief Executive Officer to grow and diversify the charity’s income.

The postholder will ensure that Sahir has effective systems, policies, processes and resources in place to deliver high-quality services safely, efficiently and sustainably.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Operations & Income Manager will contribute to the strategic direction of Sahir and help translate the charity’s ambitions into practical delivery.

The role will act as a key link between the Chief Executive Officer, managers, staff, trustees, funders, partners and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

Lead the effective day-to-day financial operations of Sahir.
Ensure that the charity’s systems, policies and procedures are clear, consistent and fit for purpose.
Oversee office management, facilities, IT, equipment, insurance, contracts and relationships with external suppliers.
Identify operational risks and ensure that appropriate controls and contingency arrangements are in place.

Income Generation

Work closely with the CEO to develop and implement Sahir’s income-generation strategy.
Help diversify income from trusts and foundations, corporate partnerships, individual giving, events, sponsorship, trading and legacy giving.
Research and identify suitable funding opportunities.
Lead or support the preparation of compelling funding applications, proposals, tenders and sponsorship packages.
Develop strong relationships with donors, funders, businesses, community partners and other supporters.

Financial and Resource Management

Work with the CEO and finance support to monitor budgets, expenditure, cash flow and income.
Provide managers with the information needed to manage their budgets responsibly.
Help identify savings, efficiencies and opportunities to improve value for money.
Ensure purchasing, expenses, petty cash and credit-card procedures are followed.
Support the preparation of financial information for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees.
Ensure that restricted funding is used and reported in accordance with funder requirements.

People Management

Provide effective and supportive line management to allocated staff.
Set clear objectives and ensure regular supervision, appraisal and development conversations take place.
Support the CEO in ensuring that employment policies and procedures are applied fairly and consistently.

Senior Leadership

Be an active and constructive member of Sahir’s Senior Leadership Team.
Contribute to organisational strategy, planning, decision-making and problem-solving.
Provide advice and challenge to the CEO and other senior colleagues.
Represent Sahir at external meetings, events and partnerships when required.
Deputise for the CEO on agreed operational matters.
Help ensure that Sahir’s values are reflected in its leadership, services and internal culture.

Person Specification

Essential Experience

Significant experience of managing operations within a charity, public-service organisation, social enterprise or similar environment.
Experience of developing or improving organisational systems, policies and procedures.
Experience of income generation, fundraising, business development or preparing funding applications.
Experience of managing staff, projects and competing priorities.
Experience of budget monitoring and financial management.
Experience of producing reports for senior leaders, trustees, funders or commissioners.
Experience of working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Strong organisational and operational management skills.
An understanding of charity governance, risk and regulatory compliance.
The ability to identify income opportunities and turn ideas into practical proposals.
Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive funding applications and reports.
Strong financial awareness and confidence working with budgets and performance information.
The ability to lead, motivate and support staff.
Excellent judgement and the ability to manage sensitive or confidential matters.
The ability to work strategically while remaining willing to deal with practical operational issues.
Strong IT skills and the ability to use databases, spreadsheets and digital systems effectively.
The ability to manage a demanding workload and meet deadlines.

Knowledge of the Liverpool City Region’s voluntary, public and business sectors.
Experience of using a customer relationship management system.
Experience of supporting organisational change or digital transformation.
