Background of department/role

Student Wellbeing and Support is a multidisciplinary service dedicated to helping students thrive throughout their university journey. The department provides a broad range of specialist and preventative support services that promote wellbeing, inclusion, academic success, retention, and positive student outcomes.

Working collaboratively with academic schools, professional services, and external partners, the team supports students with a wide range of needs, including disability and neurodiversity support, mental health and wellbeing, counselling, and access to external support services. The department is committed to delivering compassionate, student-centred support, ensuring that students can access the advice, adjustments, and interventions they need to engage fully in their studies and university life.

Through a combination of direct support, partnership working, data-informed service development, and proactive wellbeing initiatives, Student Wellbeing and Support plays a key role in creating an inclusive and supportive university community where all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Join our dedicated Student Support team, providing frontline welfare and access support that enables students to overcome barriers to learning, thrive at university and achieve their full potential.

Working within a collaborative and student-centred service, you will be the first point of contact for students seeking support with welfare concerns, disability-related adjustments and access to learning. You will play a key role in triaging referrals, coordinating support arrangements and ensuring students receive timely advice, guidance and interventions.

To be successful in this role, you will be a compassionate, organised and proactive professional who enjoys working directly with students and helping them navigate challenges that may affect their university experience.

As a Student Support & Access Adviser, you will play a vital role in delivering frontline support, assessing student needs, coordinating learning adjustments and supporting students to access appropriate services both within and beyond the University. You will be confident managing a varied caseload, building positive relationships and working collaboratively with colleagues across a range of professional and academic teams.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent standard) with experience in a student support, welfare, customer service, education, health, community or related environment. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience of handling sensitive and confidential information, and the ability to provide effective advice and support to individuals with diverse needs.

Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential requirements, alongside the ability to recognise and appropriately escalate safeguarding, wellbeing or mental health concerns.

Desirable requirements: Experience working within higher education, knowledge of disability support and reasonable adjustments, and experience of case management or wellbeing support services would be advantageous.
