Houghton Country Ltd – Heddon-on-the-Wall, Northumberland
Full-Time | Permanent
Salary: National Minimum Wage to £30,000 per year, depending on experience

Houghton Country is a well-established equestrian retailer, operating from our Northumberland store alongside a busy online and trade-show business.

We are looking for a reliable, organised and confident Office Administrator to join our team. This is a varied role involving stock management, customer service and the day-to-day administration that helps keep the business running smoothly.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing and maintaining stock records
Processing stock deliveries and assisting with stock control
Investigating and resolving stock discrepancies
Answering customer enquiries by telephone and email
Taking and processing telephone and email orders
Dealing with order, delivery, return and product enquiries. Including liaising with delivery companies to locate missing parcels.
Liaising with customers, suppliers and other members of the Houghton Country team in order to resolve warranty issues
Updating customer and order information on our computer systems
General office administration and paperwork
Helping resolve customer issues quickly and professionally
Supporting the wider retail, warehouse and e-commerce teams when required

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has an excellent telephone manner and is confident speaking with customers
Is friendly, professional and helpful
Has good written English and can communicate clearly by email
Is organised and pays close attention to detail
Is comfortable using computers and learning new systems
Can manage several tasks and prioritise their workload
Is confident working with stock, quantities, product codes and order information
Takes responsibility for seeing a customer query or problem through to completion
Works well as part of a busy team

Previous office, administration, customer service, retail or stock-control experience would be an advantage.

Knowledge of horses or equestrian products would also be useful, but is not essential.

Salary

National Minimum Wage to £30,000 per year, depending on experience, skills and the level of responsibility you are able to take on.

Working at Houghton Country

This is a hands-on position within a busy, established retail business. We are looking for someone who wants to become an important part of the office team rather than simply carry out a narrow administrative role.

There is scope for the position to develop for the right person as they gain experience and take on more responsibility.
