Location: Office-based (Colchester CO1 1JJ)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £13.00 per hour

Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable, organised, and experienced Accountant & Payroll Manager to oversee our day-to-day financial operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing company accounts, processing payroll accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting the business with financial reporting and budgeting.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and confident working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the company's day-to-day accounting functions.
Process monthly payroll accurately and on time.
Maintain purchase and sales ledgers.
Reconcile bank accounts and company accounts.
Prepare and submit VAT returns.
Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting.
Monitor cash flow and prepare financial reports for management.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and statutory deadlines.
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and HMRC when required.
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls.

Skills & Experience

Minimum of 3 years' experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or finance.
Previous payroll experience is essential.
Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and payroll legislation.
Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or similar.
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and spreadsheets.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Essential Requirements

GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English.
AAT qualification or equivalent preferred (ACCA/CIMA part-qualified or qualified is an advantage).
Fluent English.
Right to work in the UK.
Ability to reliably commute to or relocate to Colchester CO1 1JJ.
Previous payroll processing experience.

Pay: £13.00 per hour
