Our elective service is based at the 2 Halton Hospitals in Runcorn (Nightingale and Captain Sir Tom Moore Buildings), and we are seeking motivated individuals who share our mission to be “outstanding for our patients, our communities and each other”. We welcome applications from both experienced theatre support assistants and healthcare assistants from a hospital environment.

We have 7 Theatres with another soon to be added and 2 Treatment Rooms, 5 of the theatres have laminar flow providing a high standard of clean air quality for patients and staff and perform a wide range of surgery including:

Breast

General surgery
ENT
Urology
Pain Management Service
Dental
Gynaecology
Elective Orthopaedic Surgery
Trauma and Orthopaedics
Minor Vascular Surgery

Our sterile service department is Steris; they are based off site in Wythenshawe. Our clean and contaminated equipment is tracked, monitored and maintained by our sterile service department and transported by Steris to the Halton sites (hub). Shifts allocated between 08:00-19:00.

As a theatre department hub assistant, you will be required to ensure all equipment needed for theatre lists is available and ready to use, this includes liaising with the theatre teams to check which equipment is needed and communicating with sterile services off site regarding equipment.

The hub sterile service assistant will provide a quality service maintaining the integrity of sterile instruments and items by receiving and checking stock.

To advise theatre staff of issues, to work under minimal supervision when competent. The job also would involve the transfer of equipment between locations, checking theatre supplies. The successful candidate will be required to set equipment and sundries for future cases.

Good communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are essential. All applicants will be expected to possess excellent team working qualities, be forward thinking with willingness to learn new skills.

This post involves moving and handling of equipment between the 2 Halton sites, so good physical health is important, moving and handling training will be given to the successful candidate.

Regular reviews will support your progress in-conjunction with online e-learning, and other in-house training and competencies will be set to assess your progress.
