Full job description

Reports to: Provision Directors

Responsible for: Teaching Assistant

Hours: Full-time. 37 hours per week – term time only
Monday to Friday 08:30 – 16:30

Pay scale: Starting between £22,000 – 27,000 per year (after pro-rata). Negotiable according to experience.

Main duties and responsibilities:

The role involves being responsible for the day-to-day teaching of the pupils, working with the directors to develop the structure of the week and provision for the pupils. The provision supports the communities most vulnerable children, at risk of permanent exclusion, on a medium-to-long term basis.

You will:

o Work in and support management of the timetable for the provision, supporting with all aspects of conduct, organisation, resources, staffing and curriculum.

o Plan, implement and deliver individual behavioural support programmes for our pupils, individually or in small groups, according to their chosen pathways.

o Provide effective line leadership to the Teaching Assistant.

o Support manager to plan and support with re-integration of students back into mainstream education, where appropriate.

o Liaise with schools over learning and development taking place, including supporting with any curriculum requirements of their mainstream setting. Ensuring that each child within the provision has the maximum access to all learning activities, differentiating where necessary, and providing alternative methods of learning as appropriate.

o Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessons, appropriate to the learners chosen pathways and their style of learning.

o Plan and deliver effective and engaging lessons for Functional Skills Maths & English from Entry 3 to Level 2.

o Maintain and update marking and development of pupils qualifications.

o Maintain a positive, calm learning environment through appropriate behaviour management skills in line with Tigers ethos and values.

o Use technology effectively, including our reporting systems for both schools and parents.

o Ensure all reports and progress are tracked appropriately and shared with schools, according to our policies and procedures. This will include behaviour reporting systems.

o Participate in external meetings, such as LA Inclusion panels, as required by management.

o Work with schools, supporting pupils on to SEND registers as appropriate, and attend reviews as required.

o Work with the directors to ensure appropriate safeguarding and conduct, reporting to directors any potential improvements.

o Support on-call in an emergency for students who have been excluded from mainstream school and need immediate placement.

o Work with the police, schools, and wider community, ensuring that procedures are followed.

o Managing relationships with all key stakeholders, including other schools within the community.

o Undertake individual support for identified students through internal and external exams.

o Provide mentoring support for identified groups of students and challenge and motivate students to promote self-esteem.

o Assist with the supervision of students and the maintenance of good order within the site throughout the day, completing building reports to ensure clarity.

o Liaise with, and provide support for internal staff, and schools, about the needs of individual children and how best to meet them.

o Attend / lead staff meetings, INSET activities and further training where relevant.

o Uphold and actively support the academy’s policies and procedures.

o Undertake any other duties which might be reasonably regarded as within the responsibilities of the post, subject to the proviso that any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.

Person Specification

Essential:

The successful candidate will have:

o At least five A*- C GCSE’s, including English and Mathematics.

o Have relevant, recent behaviour support training.

o An Enhanced DBS.

o Team Teach / Positive handling certification.

The successful candidate will have experience of:

o Working within Secondary School or Alternative Provision setting

o Experience of working in a behaviour support capacity previously

o Experience of working with vulnerable students

o Experience of diversity and delivery of intervention and support at KS3.

o Experience of delivering Functional Skills Entry Level to Level 2

The successful candidate will:

o Be adept at problem-solving, including being able to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.

o Possess strong interpersonal skills.

o Be able to communicate clearly, both written and orally.

o Be organised, accurate and thorough in their work.

o Be dependable, able to follow instructions and respond to management directions.

o Have good working ICT knowledge including Microsoft Office.
