Smash Burger Chef – Premium Street Food

Company: Macky Teas Ltd

Location: Glasgow base with travel throughout the UK

Job type: Full-time, permanent

Working pattern: Wednesday to Sunday inclusive

Typical hours: Approximately 3pm until late

Salary: commensurate with experience but above market rate.

Macky Teas is developing a premium, chef-led takeaway and delivery concept built around exceptional Scottish ingredients, 20-inch pizzas, globally inspired flatbreads and high-quality smash burgers.

We are not creating an ordinary burger shop. Our aim is to produce a focused menu using outstanding ingredients, disciplined preparation and consistent production systems.

MACKY TEAS

We are now looking for an experienced and committed Smash Burger Chef to join a senior team of three.

THE ROLE

The successful candidate will take a leading hands-on role in developing, preparing and producing Macky Teas’ smash burger range.

You must have genuine experience of:

Producing smash burgers in volume during busy service

Working confidently with commercial gas griddles, ideally chrome-plated

Selecting and blending different cuts of beef

Developing an original house burger blend

Understanding fat percentages, grind size, texture and yield

Grinding, portioning, weighing and forming burger balls

Managing griddle temperatures and cooking zones

Achieving consistent crust, caramelisation, moisture and doneness

Controlling batch preparation, storage, labelling and traceability

Working quickly without compromising quality

This is not simply an assembly role using bought-in frozen burgers. We intend to create our own carefully specified beef blend using premium ingredients, and the successful candidate must understand how the meat, fat, grind and cooking technique work together.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:

Help finalise the Macky Teas house burger blend

Test different cuts, fat ratios and grind sizes

Prepare and portion burgers to exact specifications

Produce high volumes consistently on a gas chrome griddle

Develop reliable service procedures and build specifications

Work with premium Scottish beef, cheese, bacon, sauces and bakery products

Monitor yields, waste, portion control and production costs

Maintain excellent hygiene and food-safety standards

Help train future team members

Contribute across preparation, service, cleaning and launch activity

Support festivals, events and future UK locations

WHAT WE NEED

You must be:

A strong team player

Dependable and punctual

Highly organised

Calm under pressure

Precise with timings and portion control

Respectful of premium ingredients

Willing to follow written standards

Prepared to help wherever required

Available five days each week, Wednesday to Sunday inclusive

Willing to travel and stay away from home within the UK when required

A full UK driving licence would be helpful but is not essential.

WHO THIS ROLE COULD SUIT

You may have only a few years of professional kitchen experience but have a genuine passion for burgers, meat preparation and learning.

Alternatively, you may be an experienced chef who has become disillusioned with poor standards, lack of loyalty and limited opportunities in the hospitality industry.

We care about attitude, reliability and practical ability as much as job titles or prestigious names on a CV.

GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

The position will initially be based in Glasgow, but Macky Teas is being developed as a scalable business.

The right candidate may have opportunities to:

Travel throughout the UK

Work at major events and festivals

Support new-site openings

Train future teams

Take on wider production or operational responsibility

Grow with the organisation over the long term
