Job Overview

THIS JOB IS BASED IN LOWER WITHINGTON, IN A RURAL LOCATION ABOUT 45 MINUTES FROM MANCHESTER. WE ARE NOT ACCESSIBLE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT. YOU WILL NEED YOUR OWN CAR TO GET HERE.

Red Lion, Lower Withington, SK11 9EA is a beautiful rural pub set by Jodrell Bank in the glorious Cheshire countryside. We have just completed a glorious refurbishment of our drinking and dining areas and our kitchen will be fully renovated in January 2027.

We are seeking a skilled Junior Sous Chef to join our friendly and supportive kitchen team. If you have a passion for freshly prepared local produce and sending out plates of the highest quality then this could be a brilliant opportunity for you. We serve delicious pub classics made fresh on the premises, we also have a monthly supper club and dining events that give our chefs the opportunity to work creatively with interesting and exciting ingredients and build on their skills. We have made a reputation for ourselves as a reliable place for good food and we want to continue building that reputation.

Our head chef and landlord is classically French trained and has worked across fine dining, R&D, street food, high end production and in gastropubs for the last 4 decades. Our head chef is an excellent mentor and teacher, through exposure to his methods of working and specifications you will learn new skills and gain invaluable experience.

We have a wonderful team of people that work here at the Red Lion, we are supportive, friendly, we have fun and we work very hard.

We offer a fantastic hourly rate that is higher than the living wage, a pension scheme, holiday pay, free food, free uniform, access to training and development and to be embraced by a genuinely wonderful group of colleagues.

Following our refurbishment the pub is very busy and we require a new chef to support the kitchen.

Responsibilities

Assist the chefs with food preparation and cooking.
Oversee food safety procedures and maintain very high standards of hygiene in accordance with regulations.
Support in menu planning, ingredient sourcing, and quality control of dishes.
Ensure timely and efficient service during busy periods, maintaining excellent quality at all times
Manage stock levels, organise inventory, and assist with ordering supplies as needed.
Contribute to the training and development of new team members, fostering a positive work environment.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area at all times.

Requirements

Proven experience in food production, cooking and hospitality environments.
Prior supervising or team management experience within a kitchen setting is desirable.
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene regulations.
Familiarity with food preparation techniques and culinary practices.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively under pressure.
Leadership qualities with a proactive approach to problem-solving and team support.
Previous restaurant or catering experience is advantageous.
Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.

Pay: £13.00-£14.50 per hour
