Support Worker Bank (Sleep-In)

Responsible To

Registered Manager / Service Manager

Location

Various Supported Living and Residential Services

Hours

As required, including sleep-in shifts, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to individuals living in supported accommodation, enabling them to maintain independence, dignity, choice, and control over their lives.

The Sleep-In Support Worker is responsible for remaining on-site overnight to provide assistance in the event of emergencies, incidents, or where support is required during sleeping hours, whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users.

Key Responsibilities

Support and Care

Provide person-centred support in accordance with individual care and support plans.
Promote independence, choice, dignity, privacy, and respect always.
Support service users with daily living activities where required.
Assist service users to access community activities and maintain social inclusion.
Encourage and support individuals to achieve personal goals and outcomes.

Sleep-In Duties

Remain on the premises for the duration of the sleep-in shift.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, alarms, or support requests during the night.
Ensure the safety and welfare of service users throughout the sleep-in period.
Complete any required checks, monitoring, or observations in accordance with care plans and risk assessments.
Accurately record any incidents, interventions, or support provided during the shift.
Handover relevant information to day staff at the end of the shift.

Safeguarding and Health & Safety

Safeguard vulnerable adults and report concern immediately in line with company policies and procedures.

Follow all Health and Safety policies and risk assessments.

Report accidents, incidents, hazards, and near misses promptly.

Maintain a safe environment for service users, visitors, and colleagues.

Record Keeping

Maintain accurate and timely records.

Complete daily notes, incident reports, body maps, MAR charts, and other documentation as required.

Ensure confidentiality is maintained in line with GDPR and company policies.

Professional Responsibilities

Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.

Work in accordance with company policies, CQC regulations, and relevant legislation.

Maintain professional boundaries and standards of conduct.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, healthcare professionals, families, and external agencies.

Person Specification

Essential

Caring, compassionate, and reliable.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Understanding of safeguarding principles.
Flexibility to work sleep-in shifts, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

Previous experience in health and social care.
NVQ/RQF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care.
Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or physical disabilities.
Knowledge of CQC standards and person-centred care.

Additional Information

The post holder will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and comply with all company policies and procedures. This role may involve lone working and responding to emergency situations during sleep-in shifts.
