About us

Yoxall Health Centre is a rural friendly dispensing practice in the village of Yoxall close to Burton on Trent and Lichfield.

Are you a Dispenser looking for a new role?

We are looking to recruit a new team member for a 12 month contract working 22.5 hours per week to join the Dispensing team.

JOB TITLE : Dispenser

Part-Time

Fixed Term contract

REPORTS TO : Practice Manager/Senior Dispenser

HOURS : 22.5

RATE OF PAY : Depending on experience

Job Summary

As a dispenser at our Health Centre in Yoxall, you will be responsible for dealing with patients face to face and over the telephone, ensuring that a strict code of confidentiality is adhered to at all times.

Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibilities

Dispensing acute prescriptions as per doctor’s instructions during surgery hours
Ensuring that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and labelled with the correct drug name, strength, quantity, directions for use, patient’s name and includes any additional required information (if necessary giving patients advice).
Whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, check with the authorising Doctor or in their absence, the Duty Doctor.
Collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled and signed by the patient if appropriate.
Ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately processed in the dispensary till and a record kept of all financial transactions.
Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs to the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimizing wastage through out of date stock.
Ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with accompanying instructions.
Ensure that the working area is kept clean and tidy to maintain a high level of hygiene within the Dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
Respond to any drug alerts that may be received into the dispensary.
Deal with controlled drugs in an appropriate manner adhering to all policies and procedures and maintain the controlled drug register at all times.
Provide private prescriptions in accordance with agreed protocols making sure that all prices are checked.
Using the Emis Web/Dispense-It computer system, ensure all relevant information is accurately recorded.
Place accurate and timely orders with suppliers, checking the goods against the order and delivery notes on arrival. Rotating the stock on the shelves as and when the order arrives.
At regular intervals, check expiry dates of all stock, and bring to the Senior Dispenser’s attention, any items that are near to their expiry date so that they can be used first whenever possible. Any out of date stock to be disposed of in accordance with dispensary protocol.
Maintain stocks of dispensary stationary such as prescriptions, bags, labels, etc
Issuing and filing paper prescriptions to non-dispensing patients.
Polite handling of patient enquiries and complaints.
Dispensing of Nomads.
Involvement in Dispensing Review of Use of Medicines (DRUM).
In the absence of the Senior Dispenser, advising the Assistant Practice Manager of any significant incident or occurrence.
Ensure the safe disposal of returned and out of date medications.
Undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.
Apply practice policies, standards, guidance, and Dispensing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work.
Maintain self and team professionalism and organise self and team time to maximum efficiency.
Keep the Practice team informed of any matter arising as necessary and keep the Senior Dispenser informed of any matters or problems arising.
Use own judgment, common sense and be self motivated. Organise and prioritise own workload.
Be proactive in developing new initiatives in the dispensary.
Have the ability to use own judgement and be able to work under pressure without direct supervision (self-motivate), organise and prioritise own workload.
Other appropriate duties as directed by the Senior Dispenser, Assistant Practice Manager, Practice Manager or Doctors.

Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others’ health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
Maintain work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
Report potential risks identified.

Personal/Professional Development:

The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:

Participation in individual performance reviews, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:

Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs

You will be required to work additional hours to cover sickness and holidays.
The successful candidate will be DBS (previously CRB) checked prior to commencing work.
