School Site Supervisor / Caretaker

Pay: £14.25 per hour
Hours: 30 hours per week
Working days: Monday to Friday
Contract: Permanent, part-time – 42 weeks per year (pro rata)
Workplace: Two primary school sites
About the Role
ICS Facility Services is looking for a dependable, hardworking and proactive School Site Supervisor / Caretaker to work across two primary schools in Winmarleigh and Woodplumpton.
This is a hands-on role with cleaning as the main responsibility, alongside general caretaking, basic maintenance, security and routine site compliance checks.
You will play an important part in keeping both schools clean, safe, secure and well maintained, providing a welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
You will work independently across both locations each afternoon and evening, so we are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, manages their time effectively and can be relied upon to maintain high standards.
Your Working Hours
Monday to Friday – 30 hours per week
Winmarleigh Primary School
Winmarleigh, near Garstang, PR3 0LA
3:30pm – 5:30pm
10 hours per week
Woodplumpton St Anne’s Primary School
Woodplumpton, Preston, PR4 0NE
6:00pm – 10:00pm
20 hours per week
Hourly rate: £14.25
The role is contracted for 42 weeks per year, consisting of:
- 39 weeks during school term time
- 3 weeks of summer deep cleaning across both schools
Annual leave must be taken during school closure periods.
Travel Between Schools
As this position covers two separate school sites, you must be able to travel reliably between Winmarleigh and Woodplumpton.
Having your own transport would be highly beneficial, as public transport is limited, particularly around Winmarleigh.
What You'll Be Doing Cleaning
Cleaning is a key part of this position. Your responsibilities will include:
- Cleaning designated areas across both schools
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene and presentation
- Keeping classrooms, corridors, toilets and communal areas clean and tidy
- Completing additional and deep-cleaning tasks when required
- Replenishing cleaning products and consumables
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering cleaning/site supplies
- Using cleaning products and equipment safely and in accordance with COSHH requirements
Caretaking & General Maintenance
You will also undertake straightforward, non-specialist maintenance and handyperson duties, such as:
- Minor repairs and remedial work
- Basic repairs to taps and toilet cisterns
- Fitting shelves and notice boards
- Maintaining toilet facilities
- Dealing with minor blocked toilets and drains
- Reporting larger or specialist repairs to the appropriate person
- General porterage and moving equipment when required
Site Security
You will help ensure both schools remain secure by:
- Locking and securing the premises
- Operating alarm systems as required
- Checking that doors, windows and other access points are secure
- Reporting security concerns promptly
Routine Site & Safety Checks
You will undertake and record routine checks, with appropriate training provided. These may include:
- Fire alarms
- Emergency lighting
- Fire extinguishers
- Water testing
- Play equipment
- Ladders and other site equipment
You will be responsible for ensuring required checks are accurately recorded in the school's Maintenance Record Books and that any faults or concerns are reported.
School Grounds
You will help maintain safe and tidy external areas, including:
- Clearing leaves, moss and other debris
- Keeping drains free from obstructions
- Maintaining safe pathways and pedestrian access
- Gritting during icy conditions
- Snow clearance during severe weather
- Reporting hazards or damaged external areas
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy
- Hardworking and conscientious
- Able to work independently and use their initiative
- Organised and able to manage their time across two sites
- Committed to maintaining high cleaning standards
- Comfortable carrying out basic maintenance tasks
- Able to identify and report maintenance or safety issues
- A good verbal and written communicator
- Willing to complete required training
- Comfortable undertaking reasonable manual handling and lifting duties
Previous cleaning, caretaking or general maintenance experience would be beneficial.
Experience within a school, education or similar environment is an advantage but is not essential.
Training will be provided for relevant compliance and site-safety checks.
