Position: Team Leader
Location: Icon Plastics Factory 1
Duration: Temporary to permanent

Shift: Rotating shifts 6-2 / 2-10 / 10-6

Job Overview:

Team Leader – Job Overview

The Team Leader is responsible for leading the day-to-day operation of the production shift, ensuring that all injection moulding machines are running safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. They are the first line of supervision on the shop floor and are accountable for ensuring operators are supported, trained and working in accordance with company procedures.

The Team Leader is responsible for maintaining production flow, managing labour resources, ensuring documentation and ERP systems are accurate, supporting tool changes and ensuring every product leaving the press meets customer requirements.

The role requires a proactive leader who can effectively balance production demands, quality expectations and people management whilst upholding the values and standards of Icon Plastics.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Machine Management

Ensure all injection moulding machines are operating safely, efficiently and to the required production standards.
Monitor production throughout the shift and respond quickly to any downtime, quality concerns or production interruptions.
Effectively manage labour across the shift, ensuring operators are allocated appropriately and resources are balanced to meet production requirements.
Ensure presses are cleaned up and prepared for production following tool changes and at the end of each shift.
Support technicians during tool changes by ensuring presses, packaging and documentation are production ready.
Escalate machine or process issues promptly to the Shift Technician or Production Supervisor.

Quality Management

Take ownership of quality across the shift.
Carry out and document hourly quality checks in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure all operators understand the critical quality characteristics of the products they are manufacturing.
Provide basic quality coaching and guidance to operators using SOPs, ISOPs, QA Alerts and Visual Standards.
Ensure non-conforming product is immediately identified, contained, quarantined and escalated.
Challenge poor quality immediately and never allow suspect product to continue running without appropriate action.
Promote a "Right First Time" culture throughout the production team.

Documentation & ERP

Ensure all production documentation is accurate, complete and available at every machine.
Ensure the correct:
Job Traveller
Job Material Listing
SOP
ISOP
Information Pack
QA Alerts
Visual Standards are available and displayed before production commences.
Ensure ERP (M1) transactions are completed accurately and in real time.
Ensure machine status, downtime, rejects and production information are accurately recorded.
Maintain accurate Werma reporting throughout the shift.

Labels, Packaging & Traceability

Ensure operators always have the correct packaging available.
Verify the correct:
Product labels
Box labels
QR Codes
Ensure all finished product is correctly labelled and fully traceable before leaving the production area.
Ensure packaging specifications are followed exactly to customer requirements.

Operator Support & Training

Lead, motivate and support operators throughout the shift.
Ensure operators fully understand their roles and responsibilities.
Deliver basic operator training alongside the Training Officer.
Reinforce standard operating procedures and best practice at every opportunity.
Monitor operator performance and provide constructive coaching where required.
Support new starters and temporary staff until competent.

Housekeeping & 5S

Maintain exceptional housekeeping standards throughout the production area.
Ensure machines, workstations, walkways and storage areas remain clean, organised and safe.
Ensure presses are cleaned during production where possible and fully cleaned down following tool changes.
Promote strong 5S standards throughout the department.

Communication

Maintain clear communication with:
Operators
Shift Technicians
Material Handlers
Quality Department
Production Supervisors
Ensure accurate shift handovers are completed.
Escalate concerns promptly rather than allowing issues to develop.
Record all relevant production information accurately.
