Full job description

SUBSTANTIVE ORAL MEDICINE CONSULTANT (5PA Post)

Oxford University Hospitals wish to appoint a 5PA Consultant in Oral Medicine to provide specialist secondary and tertiary Oral Medicine services for adults and children.The successful Consultant will be involved in treating the full range of Oral Medicine conditions in the Oral and Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry Unit. Our Consultant-led teams provide services involving the full range of Oral Medicine conditions, multidisciplinary clinics with Oral Medicine which currently include Dermatology and Haematology. The successful candidate would be expected to consider developing links with these or other relevant medical or dental specialities. The post-holder’s duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe, Oxford. It is a condition of the appointment that the post holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations or outreach district general hospital clinics, including the Horton Hospital in Banbury. Each PA is 4-hours, clinics have new or follow up patients; for a 42-week year pro rata.

The postholder’s duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations.
Clinical

The post holder will be expected to:

Provide a consultant-led specialist Oral Medicine service , ensuring the highest standards of patient care. Treating the full range of Oral Medicine conditions in the Oral and Maxillofacial Unit. Our Consultant-led teams provide services involving the full range of Oral Medicine conditions & multidisciplinary clinics
Undertake outpatient clinics , including both new patient assessments and follow-up appointments.
Participate in clinical and service activities, contributing to the delivery and continuous improvement of patient outcomes at Trust, local, and national levels.
Play an active role in the clinical supervision, training, and education of:

o Dental Core Trainees

o Specialty Trainees

o Specialty Dentists

o Specialist Registrars

Contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduate medical and dental students
Participate in the training and education of postgraduate students and wider departmental educational activities.
Lead and contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical audit, and clinical governance , including participation in morbidity and mortality meetings.
