Full job description

Overview
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and proactive Barista / Café Operator to join our team at a busy community café and theatre space. This is a varied role combining daytime café service with occasional evening bar shifts during performances.

You’ll be part of a small, supportive team delivering high-quality coffee, fresh food, and a welcoming experience for both café customers and theatre audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Preparing and serving coffee and hot drinks
Taking customer orders and handling payments
General waiting duties and customer service
Light food prep (sandwiches, toasties, brunch items)
Setting up and replenishing display items (pastries, snacks, etc.)
Clearing tables and maintaining a clean service area
Supporting bar service during theatre performances
Occasional washing up and general kitchen support

Shifts & Working Hours

Café opening hours: 10:00am – 5:00pm (Monday – Sunday)
Typical shifts start from 9:30am
Evening theatre shifts: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Some afternoon bar shifts: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Weekend brunch service launching from 18th & 19th March

Shifts will vary week to week depending on rota and performances.

What We’re Looking For

Previous experience as a barista or in a café/hospitality environment preferred
Friendly, positive attitude and strong customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Reliable and punctual
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Flexible availability (including evenings and weekends)
