Company Overview

Quebec Hall is a Christian charitable care home that has been providing residential care for older people for over 65 years. Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred care throughout the night, ensuring residents remain safe, comfortable, supported and treated with dignity. Night Care Assistants play a vital role in monitoring residents' wellbeing, responding to care needs, administering medication and PRN medication where authorised, maintaining accurate records, and carrying out cleaning and housekeeping duties to support the smooth running of the home.

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care

Assist residents with personal care, including toileting, continence care, washing, dressing and repositioning as required during the night.
Support residents with mobility, transfers and repositioning using appropriate equipment and techniques.
Respond promptly and compassionately to residents who require assistance during the night.
Promote independence wherever possible, encouraging residents to do as much as they are able.

Health and Wellbeing

Carry out regular wellbeing and safety checks in accordance with care plans and organisational procedures.
Administer medication where trained, competent and authorised to do so.
Administer PRN (as required) medication in accordance with care plans, protocols and medication policies.
Monitor the effectiveness of PRN medication and accurately record outcomes.
Observe residents' physical and emotional wellbeing and report any concerns or changes to senior staff.
Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, falls, illness or deteriorating health conditions.

Daily Living and Resident Support

Provide reassurance, comfort and emotional support to residents who may be anxious, confused or unsettled during the night.
Support residents with drinks, snacks and comfort needs where appropriate.
Help maintain a calm, peaceful and homely atmosphere throughout the home.

Domestic and Environmental Duties

Maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment for residents and staff.
Carry out scheduled night cleaning duties throughout the home, including communal areas, equipment and frequently touched surfaces.
Clean and disinfect care equipment in accordance with infection control procedures.
Make and change beds as required.
Assist with laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding and storing residents' clothing and linen appropriately.
Ensure sluice rooms, treatment areas and staff areas are kept clean and organised.
Report maintenance concerns, hazards or environmental issues promptly.
Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.

Record Keeping

Accurately complete care notes, medication records and other documentation using the care system.
Record all care provided, observations made and actions taken during the shift.
Ensure all planned care tasks are completed and documented appropriately.
Report concerns, incidents, accidents, safeguarding issues or medication errors promptly and in line with procedure.

Communication and Teamwork

Work effectively as part of the care team and maintain clear communication with colleagues.
Provide comprehensive handovers at the beginning and end of each shift.
Build positive relationships with residents, relatives and colleagues.
Treat all information confidentially and in line with data protection requirements.

Health, Safety and Compliance

Follow all policies and procedures, including infection control, moving and handling, medication management and safeguarding.
Maintain a safe working environment for residents and staff.
Attend training, supervision and competency assessments as required.
Work in line with CQC standards and the home's values.
Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Quebec Hall's Christian ethos and commitment to compassionate care.

Person Specification

Essential

Caring, patient and compassionate nature.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable and able to work independently during night shifts.
Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record keeping and medication administration.
Willingness to complete training and achieve the Care Certificate.
Ability to undertake cleaning and housekeeping duties as part of the role.

Desirable

Previous experience in a care setting.
NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care.
Medication administration training and experience.
Experience supporting older people or those living with dementia.
Experience working night shifts.
