Role overview
Are you a hands-on Design Engineer who wants to see your work go beyond the screen and into real industrial environments?
At Dehum, you have the opportunity to design bespoke dehumidification and air handling systems for technically demanding sectors including aerospace, automotive, food production, pharmaceuticals, defence and advanced manufacturing.
This is not a repetitive design role. No two days are exactly the same. You will work across a wide variety of projects, industries and client requirements, giving you the opportunity to solve different engineering challenges rather than producing the same type of drawing every week.
You will report directly to the Engineering Director, who will be responsible for setting your priorities, training and directing your workload unless otherwise agreed.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys their current design role but feels they could do more. You may want to develop new skills, become more involved in projects, spend more time on site, or build confidence dealing with customers face-to-face. There is a clear route to this at Dehum, and you will not be thrown in at the deep end.
We value drive, attitude and practical problem-solving. If you have the right foundations but there are certain specialist skills you still need to develop, we can teach the rest. Come to us with the right mindset, and we will help you grow.
Company overview
Dehum is one of the UK’s leading specialists in industrial dehumidification and humidity control engineering. Based in Glossop, Derbyshire, we design, manufacture, install and maintain bespoke air handling and environmental control systems for clients across the UK and internationally.
Our engineered solutions support sectors including aerospace, automotive, food production, pharmaceuticals, defence and advanced manufacturing, but in truth, there isn’t an industry in the world that wouldn’t benefit from our solutions, hence why we have such a diverse clientele.
We help organisations protect valuable assets, improve product quality, increase process reliability and reduce energy consumption through carefully designed humidity control systems.
With over 3 decades of technical expertise and a strong reputation for engineering excellence, Dehum continues to grow through innovation, quality and long-term client partnerships. We are committed to creating controlled environments that allow our customers’ operations to perform at their best.
This role could suit you if you:
· Enjoy designing practical engineering solutions, not just producing drawings
· Have experience with HVAC, AHUs, ventilation, mechanical systems, 3D CAD, SolidWorks or specialist equipment
· Like working on varied projects rather than repeating the same design work every day
· Want more development, more responsibility and more exposure to real project delivery
· Are comfortable speaking with colleagues, suppliers and occasionally clients
· Would like the opportunity to build confidence on site and see your designs working in real environments
· Want to join a specialist engineering business where your work has a visible impact
Development and progression
It is easy for businesses to say they invest in their team. At Dehum, this means giving you direct access to experienced engineers, real project exposure, practical technical guidance and the opportunity to learn from live systems rather than just theory.
You will be supported by the Engineering Director and wider team as you build your knowledge of bespoke humidity control, air handling systems, psychrometrics, component selection, compliance, technical documentation, installation support and commissioning.
As the business grows, there may be opportunities to take greater ownership of design standards, product development, technical documentation and project engineering processes.
Starting a new role is always daunting, especially in a specialist engineering environment. You will be joining a supportive, open and friendly workplace culture where questions are encouraged, knowledge is shared and people are given the chance to take real ownership of their work.
