Dog Walker & Professional Cuddler (Canine Care Specialist)

Contract Type: Part-time, Initial Freelance/Contract (with the intention to move to permanent PAYE)

Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week (roughly 4 hours a day), with strong potential for more hours as needed.

Compensation: Minimum wage up to £16 per hour, depending on experience.

At Butler & Bone, we provide bespoke doggy concierge, boarding, and walking services for families whose dogs expect something beyond the ordinary. Based in our private Notting Hill residence, we offer a true “home away from home” for small and select medium breeds.

We believe the best care is both highly professional and deeply personal. Whether we are taking our pack for walks or providing a familiar sofa to snooze on, we treat every dog exactly the way we treat our own—with patience, consistency, and genuine love.

The Role

We are seeking an exceptionally trustworthy, proactive, and highly adaptable Dog Walker & Professional Cuddler to join our exclusive team. In this role, you will be a vital guardian of our guests, splitting your time between leading safe, stimulating walks in Kensington Gardens, providing loving supervision at our Notting Hill residence, and assisting with our bespoke concierge services.

Please note: To ensure we find the perfect match for our pack, this role will initially begin on a freelance/contract basis for a probationary period. Our intention is to transition the right candidate onto a permanent PAYE contract once we know it is a great fit for everyone.

Key Responsibilities

Kensington Gardens Walks: Confidently lead small, carefully matched groups of dogs on daily walks in Kensington Gardens. Ensure physical safety, mental stimulation, and exceptional recall management (incorporating our AirTag safety protocols).

Home-from-Home Supervision: Act as the primary caretaker in our Notting Hill residence when management is off-site. Maintain a calm, safe, and positive environment, ensuring dogs stick to their familiar routines—from feeding times to professional-level sofa snuggles.

Concierge Support: Assist with the smooth running of our wider concierge services. For candidates who drive, this may occasionally involve safely transporting dogs to vet or grooming appointments.

The “Butler” Standard: Uphold our high standards of care. This means returning dogs clean and comfortable (paws wiped, mud brushed off), utilizing positive reinforcement, and respecting each dog’s unique personality and quirks.

Independent Initiative: Manage the day-to-day flow of the house seamlessly while flying solo. You see what needs to be done—whether it’s refreshing water bowls, tidying up, or giving a reserved dog some extra one-on-one time—and you handle it without needing to be asked.

The Ideal Candidate

Eager to Learn & Adaptable: While prior professional experience working with dogs is a wonderful “nice-to-have,” it is not mandatory. What we value most is a highly adaptable nature and a genuine willingness to learn our high standards of canine care, psychology, and positive reinforcement.

Deeply Trustworthy & Loyal: Our clientele trusts us implicitly with their family members and homes. You value extreme discretion, reliability, and loyalty. Please note: We will conduct a DBS check for selected candidates.

Proactive & Self-Motivated: You have excellent judgment and a high level of common sense. You can confidently manage and care for beloved pets independently.

A True Dog Lover: You have an immense, genuine love for dogs. You understand that they aren’t just pets—they are family—and you are comfortable working specifically with small and medium breeds.

Flexible: You are comfortable working a minimum of 20 hours a week, but have the flexibility and willingness to take on more hours as the business requires.

Bonus (Driving): Holding a clean, valid UK driving license is a wonderful bonus for assisting with our dog taxi services, but it is not a dealbreaker.
