Job summary

Your role is vitally important to the effectiveness of the BSR in ensuring the safety of residents in communities by managing cases effectively through coordination of internal and external partners and ensuring all stages of the assessment process are followed.

You will support Regulatory Leads with the High Risk (HRB) operational functions: Building Control and In-Occupation.

The Building Control function is about ensuring HRBs are designed and built to approved standards.

As part of the Operational Delivery Team, you will work with Regulatory Leads to bring together and support regulatory partners including building, structural and fire safety specialists to ensure cases are progressed efficiently and effectively.

The role in vital supporting the efficient allocation, onboarding, and tracking of Multi‑Disciplinary Team (MDT) members across regulatory areas. The postholder ensures that operational data is accurate, supports key administrative processes, and provides essential coordination across internal and external stakeholders to maintain a high‑quality service.

The roles are split across two different work areas within the BSR Building Control Team; Building Control Casework and Building Control Workflow.

Part Time

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role, there is a business need for coverage over 5 days.

Travel

Please note that occasional travel to other BSR locations will be required for meetings, training, and other business needs. This may include the occasional overnight stays.

Job description

The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) became an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) on 1st June 2026.

The BSR is a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees are Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.

All employees will have access to:

Existing Civil Servants transferring into BSR will have their continuity of Service recognised for the purposes of sick pay and annual leave entitlement. However, if they later move to another Civil Service department, continuity of service may not automatically be recognised by the receiving department.

This would be subject to that departments own policies and arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain accurate case management systems, trackers, MDT commissioning records, allocations, case details, and operational updates to support reporting and governance.
Ensure D365 assessment files contain complete and accurate information from all partners, including application review activities and assessment outcomes.
Conduct linked case, compliance, workload, governance, and conflict of interest checks, escalating risks, dependencies, and concerns to managers where appropriate.
Manage shared mailboxes and MDT communications, providing timely responses, issuing allocation notifications, and acting as a key point of contact for MDT members.
Provide operational support for Section 13 requests, local authority and Fire and Rescue Service enquiries, and other bespoke resource requests.
Collaborate with managers, case officers, and stakeholders to support efficient case progression and achievement of key milestones.
Analyse, review, and report on data from multiple sources, producing operational insights, managing backlogs, and supporting informed decision-making.
Contribute to continuous improvement activities, process enhancements, data quality initiatives, and other tasks directed by senior managers to support business objectives.

Person specification

Experience working in a fast paced operational, administrative or data handling environment, completing case work or account management.
Experience maintaining accurate records, trackers, or case management systems.
Experience using judgement and initiative to manage cases including identifying areas for action, implementing decisions by others, and identifying opportunities to improve practices.
Experience communicating professionally and maintaining relationships with a range of stakeholders. Providing good customer service to all parties, managing expectations sensitively and communicating clearly, regularly and at an appropriate level, in writing or over the telephone.
Experience managing shared inboxes or delivering customer-focused support.

Hybrid Working

At BSR, we are proud to be able to offer our people the opportunity to work in a hybrid way which combines working from home and the office. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and your allocated office will be your contractual place of work.

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 60% of your working week. The arrangements will be determined primarily by business need, but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Strengths and Experience.

Upon submitting your short application form, you will be invited to complete a Civil Service Verbal Reasoning, Numerical and Casework Skills Tests.

Please complete the online tests as soon as possible, within 24-48 hours is recommended, to allow time to complete your full application.

If you successfully pass the test, you will then be invited to complete the final stage of your application.

Sift Information

The sift will take place from week commencing 17/08/2026 where you will be scored on the written Behaviours of Delivering at Pace, Communicating and Influencing and Personal Statement.

IMPORTANT: Please be advised that the sift will be conducted on a knock-out basis. An initial sift will be conducted on the Behaviour Delivering at Pace, followed by behaviour Communicating and Influencing, followed by Personal Statement. You must meet the benchmark at each stage to progress to the next stage. If you do not meet the standard at any stage, you will not receive a score for the next stages.

Interview Information

Interviews will take place from week commencing 07/09/2026 where you will be scored on the Behaviours within the advert.

In the event of a tie break, the Lead Behaviour Delivering at Pace will be used to determine outcomes.
