Full job description

Job Overview

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Forklift Operator to join our growing waste management and plastic recycling operation. The successful candidate will support the safe and efficient movement of recyclable plastic materials throughout our facility, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations within a fast-paced recycling environment.

This role involves handling a variety of plastic waste materials, including baled plastic waste, bagged plastic shred, and loose plastic materials. Experience working within recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or industrial environments would be highly advantageous.

Duties

Perform basic maths calculations related to weights, measurements, and inventory counts
Operate forklifts safely and efficiently to move, load, unload, and organise recyclable plastic materials across the site
Handle baled plastic waste, bagged plastic shred, and loose plastic materials in accordance with company procedures and safety standards
Load and unload trailers, articulated vehicles, and export containers safely and efficiently
Offload incoming trailers and containers and accurately place materials within designated storage areas
Load export containers and outbound trailers in line with shipping schedules and load plans
Complete delivery notes and upload paperwork accurately using company systems and handheld technology
Support production and recycling operations by ensuring materials are supplied to the correct processing areas
Carry out daily forklift checks and report defects or maintenance issues promptly
Assist with stock control and material tracking using warehouse or inventory management systems
Maintain clean working areas and ensure waste materials are stored safely and correctly
Follow all site health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times
Assist with general warehouse and yard duties as required

Requirements

Valid forklift licence with proven experience in operating various forklift models
Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems and materials handling procedures
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic equipment repairs or troubleshooting
Good organisational skills with attention to detail for inventory accuracy
Ability to lift heavy loads safely and work in physically demanding environments
Basic maths skills for measurements, weight calculations, and inventory management
Valid forklift licence (Counterbalance essential; other licences advantageous)
Previous forklift operating experience within warehouse, recycling, waste management, or industrial settings
Experience loading and unloading trailers and shipping containers
Confidence handling baled materials, bagged products, and loose loads safely
Comfortable using technology, handheld devices, and computer systems to complete paperwork and delivery documentation
Good awareness of health and safety procedures within operational environments
Ability to work in a physically demanding role and outdoors when required
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Basic mechanical awareness and ability to identify equipment issues
Reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a team

This role is ideal for motivated individuals seeking a hands-on position within a fast-paced logistics environment.

Pay: £12.71-£15.00 per hour
