Full job description

Hours: 39 hours per week (including shift patterns, evenings and weekends) We also consider part time and bank worker applications.

Please Note: You must be eligible to work in the UK and hold a UK manual driving licence. We do not offer Visa sponsorship

Starting salary of £27,295 rising to £30,385 once QCF Level 3 (company funded) is complete (there are no sleep in's required for this role)

NB: Although primarily based in one service, you may be required to work across other Genesis services where operationally necessary.

Genesis CTE is a dedicated provider of specialist residential and therapeutic services for children and young people and adults facing social, psychological, behavioural, and mental health challenges. Our Home in Rudford is centred around adults and young people. Your role will be to contribute to a stable, therapeutic, person-centred environment within a CQC-regulated home for adults and young people. The aim is to support individuals in their emotional development, wellbeing, daily living skills, and personal growth, enabling them to progress towards greater independence, confidence, and stability.

The role requires resilience, a professional approach to managing personal stress, and the ability to remain focused on supporting individuals without bringing personal challenges into the workplace.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Therapeutic and Person-Centred Support

Work under the direction of the Registered Manager to deliver high-quality therapeutic care that promotes the wellbeing, independence, health, and development of adults and young people.
Contribute to a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment consistent with the service’s therapeutic ethos and Statement of Purpose.
Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships, ensuring individuals feel heard, valued, respected, and supported.
Support individuals with daily routines, emotional regulation, self-care, social development, education, employment, or training activities.
Recognise behaviours as communication and respond using de-escalation, trauma-informed approaches, and positive support techniques, following organisational policies.

Daily Living and Community Participation

Support individuals in all aspects of day-to-day living including domestic activities, attending appointments, participating in recreation, and planning meaningful activities.
Promote independence and encourage involvement in household responsibilities where appropriate.
Facilitate and support healthy relationships with family or significant others when appropriate and in line with care/support plans.

Practice, Professional Standards and Regulation

Ensure all care practice aligns with CQC Fundamental Standards, relevant legislation, and internal policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records, including daily notes, incident reports, medication documents, and care plan updates.
Participate in handovers, team meetings, case discussions, and reflective practice sessions.
Work in a non-discriminatory and inclusive manner, respecting cultural, religious, and individual differences.
Take responsibility for designated practice areas and contribute to service improvement as required by the Registered Manager.

Teamwork, Flexibility, and Professional Conduct

Demonstrate flexibility in shift patterns, including the ability to cover for colleagues or stay at short notice when operationally necessary.
Work collaboratively as part of a team, sharing responsibilities and supporting colleagues to ensure continuity of care.
Maintain professional boundaries, emotional resilience, and the ability to manage personal challenges without impacting work.

Personal and Professional Development

Attend all mandatory and therapeutic training, supervision sessions, and team development days, whether during or outside shift hours.
Engage actively in professional reflection and supervision, raising relevant issues and contributing to a learning culture.
Pursue ongoing professional development through study, research, and participation in accredited training.
Work towards completing the Care Certificate and Level 3 Health & Social Care qualification (or equivalent) if not already achieved, as required within regulatory timeframes.

Health, Safety and Risk Management

Contribute to the health, safety, and wellbeing of individuals in the home.
Report hazards, incidents, or concerns promptly and accurately.
Maintain vigilance regarding fire safety, infection control, and environmental risks.
Participate in risk assessments for in-house and community-based activities.
Administer and record medication in line with policy and professional standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications
Essential:

Care Certificate or willingness to complete upon appointment.
Level 3 Health & Social Care (Adults/Young People) or willingness to undertake within regulatory timescales.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential:

Experience supporting adults or young people in a care, support, education, or community setting (paid or voluntary).

Desirable:

Experience in a therapeutic, trauma-informed, or residential care setting.
Knowledge of safeguarding, risk management, and person-centred care planning.
Understanding of CQC standards and relevant legislation.
Experience supporting individuals with emotional or behavioural needs.

Skills & Abilities
Essential:

Genuine interest in therapeutic, person-centred care.
Ability to form trusting, professional relationships and maintain clear boundaries.
Effective communication skills (written and verbal), including record keeping.
Ability to support individuals in meaningful daily activities, including physical or outdoor activities.
Resilience and ability to manage personal stress professionally.
Competent with Microsoft Office and basic IT systems.
Flexibility to cover shifts or support colleagues at short notice.
Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
Ability to meet the demands of shift work, including waking nights.
Full manual driving licence.

Desirable:

Experience using de-escalation techniques or positive behaviour support strategies.
Confidence and consistency when working with individuals who may display distressed or challenging behaviours.
Team player with a collaborative approach to supporting colleagues.

Additional Requirements
This role includes travel to appointments, activities, and meetings; therefore, the ability to fulfil this requirement is essential and a full Manual Driving Licence is required.
