Full job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation, a good understanding of food safety standards, and experience working in a kitchen environment. This role involves creating balanced meals that meet dietary requirements while ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. The Nursery Cook will play a vital part in supporting the health and wellbeing of our young children through quality meal provision.

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook meals suitable for children, ensuring nutritional value and variety
Follow specific dietary guidelines and accommodate any allergies or special dietary needs
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in accordance with food safety standards
Assist with meal planning and portion control to minimise waste
Ensure all food is stored correctly and safely, adhering to hygiene regulations
Monitor food freshness and expiry dates, discarding any unsafe ingredients
Support the overall cleanliness of the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment
Collaborate with nursery staff to coordinate meal times and special dietary requests

Requirements

Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting- though not essential.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
Experience with meal preparation for children, including understanding of nutritional requirements
Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering environment is desirable but not essential
Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
This is a year round role, with approximate hours of 9am-1pm Monday - Friday
A DBS check will need to be completed prior to commencing the role.
