Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Temporary Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for young children in a nursery setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in food preparation and cooking, ensuring meals meet safety standards and dietary requirements. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of children while working in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for nursery children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nutritional standards
Ensure all food is prepared safely, maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene at all times
Organise meal portions and serve food in a timely manner, creating a pleasant dining experience for children
Assist with the cleaning and sanitising of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces after each shift
Follow menu plans provided by the nursery management, making adjustments as necessary based on children's preferences or dietary needs
Maintain accurate records of food supplies and report any shortages or issues to management promptly
Support the overall cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations

Qualifications

Proven experience in food preparation and cooking
Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in kitchen hygiene
Previous restaurant or catering experience is desirable but not essential
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
Good organisational skills with the ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
Friendly, reliable, and committed to providing nutritious meals that support children's health and development

As this role is within a childcare setting, any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced criminal records check.

Contract length: 3 months

Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
